Heyer is "just a guy" who does not scare any defense and Rabach is getting beat like a red headed stepchild too often. Jason Campbell is lucky he is still able to walk and the beating he is taking makes it all the more important that at least two starters if not 3 are found in the offseason. Dockery is your only mainstay on this line and he is starting to get up in years as well but we can live with him.
You are right!

It would be typical Snyder to kill continuity just when our offense is becoming formidible. Campbell is by far our best option if the FO is serious about fielding a contender next year. He will probably be the best FA QB available, and if you draft a replacement, you're looking at a 2-3 year learning curve. The light bulb has turned on for Campbell in the last month. Address our O-line issues, and I could see our offense taking HUGE strides if the same group is kept in place at the skill positions.

Okay, but here's the buzzkill way of looking at it...

Why did it take until week 10 or so for things to start clicking? And are things really clicking when you beat the woeful Raiders? Yes, Campbell has looked better recently -- against the Saints who were missing three defensive starters. People seem to forget the 6 points we managed against the Cowboys.

Are we going to have to wait until the second half of every season before Campbell and the offense start to "get it" ?? And is Campbell the type of quarterback who will give you flashes of greatness like this every four or five games or so?

That said, he is without a doubt our best option going into 2010. There aren't any free agent QBs worth a damn, and no rookie would give us a snowballs chance next year. So at this point, I say you have to keep him and work on the five guys up front who protect him. Looks like the receivers are starting to shape up into some fairly formidable threats.

Re: Campbell Needs To Be Cut

I think Campbell's improvement is due to getting more confortable with Fred Davis and Devin Thomas, something that wasn't happening earlier in the season. Earlier in the season he kept looking for Moss, ARE and Cooley. Now he realizes he's got more weapons and they have become more reliable.

Thank god that trade didn't happen, it would have been catastrophic. Cutler is the most over rated QB in the NFL, just like the guy that drafted him, can you say Shanahan.

Now, though that might sound like heresy, it's probably completely unfair to assume that Zorn should have known that the right moves involved not playing Portis, moving the focus of the offense away from Moss, playing Fred Davis and Devin Thomas, and not putting so much faith in a defense that we just poured even more mega bucks into. There's no coach who would have figured this out in time to start 4-2 instead of 2-4. But, again, that's not really Cerrato's fault, is it?
I think it is indicative of a breakdown in understanding what we have. It is baffling to me that we've considered Moss a true WR1 here for the last 3 years. He has done little in his career to be a #1 anywhere in all honesty. That coupled with the even more baflfing blindness to the Oline issues and curious appraisal of the secondary and it comes down to this. Either the coaching staff, the FO, or both aren't very good at evaluating how good of a team we have. Or at least how good the pieces are. You look around at this team and can't really identify someone who is vastly under-performing what could have reasonably been expected of them.

Re: Campbell Needs To Be Cut

I still completely blame Vinny for a decade of mediocrity, just because good players like Jason Campbell, Thomas, Davis etc. have had time to stay in one system, learn it and progress like all the good teams do does not vindicate him...if he had his way, all these guys would be out of here next season.

Really, use your brain for 5 seconds....IT TAKES 2 YEARS TO LEARN THE WEST COAST OFFENSE...IT TOOK BRETT FAVRE 3 YEARS, MONTANA 2 YEARS AND JC IS JUST BEGINNING TO GET IT NOW...you dont just put in a complex offensive system in a couple of games and everyone gets it right away

The numbers bare out that he has played well all season. Fans can't see pass all the sacks the O-line gave up along with the hits and hurries and very little offensive production in the first half of the season. If you really think about with an open assesment you will realize the only difference now is that the protection is a lot better and the point production is 300% better.
