Re: On the Cusp - Post Game Thread

I have been holding this critique because we have been winning: DE #99 Clelin Ferrell is worthless against the run. He is in fact a negative number. Every time I watch him in run stopping situations he gets run over and knocked off his feet. The frustrating part is I have seen RB's and TE's easily man handle him, a supposed DE. We need a strong run stopping situational substitute for 99. Desperately.

Watt had 0 tackles. Wonder if that has ever happened.

Very frustrating loss. A winnable game against a very good opponent. Steelers looked sharp and were super physical. Way too many Commanders' drops and pass protection sucked. Thought JD still played well.

We need to put this game behind us. Huge, tough game at Philly Thursday.

HTTC!

The game should have been won after leading by 10 in the 3rd. Too many mistakes killed us. Dropped balls , muffed punt , bad call on Ertz, JD5 was also off a bit. It happens, still only lost by 1 point so thats encouraging

Yes and it was against an AFC opponent. Honestly though this game exposed this team's weaknesseses. Need better corners (know Lattimore didn't play), better olinemen pass protectors, and even receivers. A tough loss but there is benefit in it imo.

Trying to not lose sight of how far we’ve come so quickly. Still a work in progress, of course, but to go the distance with a perennial playoff team without BRob, Wiley and Lucas was a tall order.

Considering we needed a Hail Mary to beat the Bears, it was inevitable we’d drop a game we should have won. On to Philly.

Pittsburgh and particularly Wilson played better than I expected. They pounded the crap out of the rock with Warren/Harris. Defense was just nasty. Pickens balled out too. Still, we should have won. We have come super far.

On to to Philly. Let's go Commanders!

Re: On the Cusp - Post Game Thread

The game was tough to swallow, if we played a perfect game then we likely would have won the game. Gotta give credits to Steelers defense, they played great game against us. The fact that we made a few mistakes and yet we still had a chance to win the game shows a huge improvement.. If we had the same team and coaches as last year, Steelers would have whipped our asses.

On a different note, the game was John Keim's 500th game that he covered. He said that the organization surprised him to celebrate this by inviting his family to watch the game with him. Super classy move by the organization, Keim even said that in his podcast. Despite this rough loss, we cannot forget how much we have changed for better this year.

We only garnered two turnovers. Turnovers nonetheless, but those turnovers did come deep in our own territory.

In a close game, you can look to three or four plays (or poor or favorable calls) that created a loss or win. We're up 24-14 during the early part of the 3rd quarter, get a sack and it's now 2nd & 19 w/Pittsburgh on their own 47 yard line. We go into a soft ass zone and the Steelers easily convert a first down and gain some momentum and then eventually score a TD. I would've brought pressure on 2nd & 19 and possibly force a quick throw.

Another missed opportunity (we're up 24-21) is when Ertz had an easy first down, which would've kept our drive alive inside the Steelers' 30, but he dropped it and we eventually have to settle for a FG. That was huge! If we go up 31-21, we possibly win the game.

Daniels was off a bit yesterday as he missed Zaccheus and McCaffrey for what would've been huge gains, if not possible TDs. He was somewhat under duress on both of those passes, so I won't give him too much flak on those misses. But both were big misses, nonetheless.

Lastly, Ertz's 4th down reception should've been respotted (we got a shitty spot), and we should've at least gotten a measurement. IMO, Ertz's initial forward progress suggested a first down. Even if he was short; he wasn't a full yard short. A measurement should've been warranted.

Great post, my finger of blame falls to the O. JD5 was ok and the WR/TE were awful.

When we had it at midfield down by 3 with over two minutes to go and all our time outs and just go 4 straight downs and not convert, the O is the strength of this team and JD5 is the superman, that game was laid out for the O to win and they whiffed big time.

I honestly thought SJB giving up that TD was a blessing, it came with plenty time on the clock only down by one, all our time outs and JD5 our best player holding the ball, dream scenario for JD5 to step up and be the hero against a really good team

The story about the team reaching out to Keim is incredible. It totally typifies the transformation of this franchise and ownership. He is a great source of team information, and clearly the team values his contributions.
