Trent isn't a dime a dozen kind of prospect, he could definitely go to 5 and could drop to 17 to Cincy but he is an amazing prospect as AP was and wouldn't cry if he ended up being a Redskin. Just watch some of his highlights and compare them to AP's college highlights.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Yeah, but the shelf life on RBs is so short, and teams routinely win Super Bowls without an elite RB. Willie Parker, Joseph Adai, Whoever ran for the Pats those 3 years, the endless rotation of backs for the Giants. Did the Packers even have a Running Back on the roster last year? The Saints when they won it all? It's a passing league now. Don't see any RBs carrying their team to the promised land anytime soon. Not a smart move at 6. Bengals, however, might think they're a playmaker away from being for real.

Didn't we lose?

The only playoff game we have won since like 2000 is the 2005 win against the Bucs. ST made a game changing play in that game.

I'll give you GB last year, but if we really looked at it how many games has his play lost us a game? I know that for a fact that he was not in the end of the Houston game last year, when Reed Doughty gave up the game tying TD to Andre J. in the final seconds. He wasn't there because he hurt himself early in the fourth quarter.

He misses more games and also plays out of position enough that not paying him a ton of money is a really good idea.

He also might want out of DC making this conversation mute.

Then you also may have a scenario where there isn't a big market for him in the range of what he wants out of his next contract, outside of DC b/c of the salary cap not moving much the next couple of years. Look at last years deals, some of the pundents site the lockout but others contend that the new CBA cap restraints for the next couple of years may play a factor in teams not signing long contracts.

No way RG3 falls to #6...

If we want him, we gotta trade up (hopefully Bruce can cut a good deal).

Re: 2012 redskins

Some good quotes from coach at the Senior Bowl.

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen
Mike Shanahan on when he took over #Redskins: "We had not used a lot of our draft choices and when you don't do that you paid for it."

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen
Shanahan: "Hopefully we'll get some good free agents this year & we'll have a solid draft. Then you'll have a chance to compete." #Redskins

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen
Shanahan: "When you don't have depth and you lose a few players it can dictate your season. Next year hopefully we will be a lot deeper."

Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen
Mike Shanahan's main goal this off-season? "We can't make mistakes.. We're not too far away.. Everybody's looking for that franchise QB."

Re: 2012 redskins

The Case for LaMichael James shifted to WR.

I have said many times on the board that James needs to be on the redskins roster because he is a playmaker. I think we need atleast 3 playmakers on this offense to make a difference in the offense.

Because of his talent level I think he can multiple positions on the field. He reminds me of a player like Bush or Percy Harvin because he can create in space, soft hands and has major speed. Remember Harvin was a runningback in college as well. James is a better running back than Harvin and was utilized more as a back in the Ducks system. He can be brought here to do more than just run the ball.

Re: 2012 redskins

I read it a little while ago, and I have to say I was surprised to read that part. I always thought Fred Davis would be considered as the best playmaker for offense. But then again, Davis would not have those opportunities to make plays if it was Beck throwing the ball.

When I heard the interview I got the impression, and I still do, that he was talking specifically about the QB position. Basically saying that Rex > Beck

Yeah, I was surprised to read that too but the more I thought about it makes some sense that he said it, even though I don't think its remotely true.

I've always felt that Rex was Kyle's guy and their mutually beneficial friendship was/is damaming for the team.
I'm really put off by his statement that Rex was the best playmaker.
I mean that's absurd, even apart from the turnover issue.
Despite airing it out far more then he should be allowed he only threw 16 TD passes and had a low 3rd down conversion rate.
That is in no way shape or form a 'playmaker' Rex cannot avoid the rush and cannot create a play after the defense 'wins' and the design play has failed.
I'm gonna assume that Kyle and not Mike was the primary impetus behind choosing Rex as our QB.
And Kyle chose easily one of the worst starting QBs in the league and Rex's QB play was the key factor in the losses. (13 games 25 turnovers more if you include all fumbles not just fumbles lost)

The greater feeling a got from Kyle's interview was a sense of subtle blameshifting that I feel from Kyle and Mike lately.
Earlier in offseason there seemed to be a Kyle driven PR move to dispel the notion that the offense was difficult to learn, but the irony is that Kyle's own statements on the reason for choosing Rex as his QB was because of the intricacies of the offense.

Then there has been Mike's talk of the lack of talent on the roster, which to me is basically an excuse for his own decision to half-way win now and not committing to a rebuild sooner.

Now there's a lack of 'playmakers' holding the offense back when in actuality the QB held the offense back more then anything else.
And its the QB that Kyle chose.

But Kyle and his perception massaging kinda rubs me the wrong way.(although its very smart)
People seem quick to defend and make excuses for him because they feel he is unfairly being criticized because of the perception of nepotism.
The "oh you don't like Kyle because he's Mike's son' thing.
But in fact I think Kyle is receiving the opposite treatment.
Despite his actual lack of success/production as an OC here he gets the benefit of the doubt.
Some normally critical people are wary of being excused of being unfairly critical of Kyle and are too happy with the regime at large to be critical in any manner for fear this regime will be gone. (and to be clear I am happy with the new structure/regime too)

I hope/think Kyle/Mike solve this QB problem this offseason/year because without much improved QB play Kyle's offense cannot succeed the way he calls it and until then we cannot win.
I believe they must solve the QB problem because its their only chance to stick around to complete the rebuild job.

Perhaps you are right.

I bolded the part that made me to think that Kyle meant Rex as the best playmaker for offense, not the QB position specifically.

Quote:
We’ve got to get some guys that can make some plays on their own, and turn a little shallow up into a big play and score some points,” Shanahan said. “When we took Rex out those three games, we stopped moving the ball, we stopped making plays. So I know Rex has got to do a lot better, he cannot turn the ball over like that if he wants a chance to win, but to give Rex some credit, he was also the best playmaker that we had on the field.
Regardless, like Matty said, everyone have their own interpretations.
