Trent to the Jets?

https://www.nbcsports.com/washington...kins-ot-report

But wait. There’s more. 3 more teams rumored to be interested in Trent now. Let’s get that bidding war going!!

I have to say this: I hate that it seems a forgone conclusion that we're trading Trent. I wish there was some way we could keep him on the team.

He's been a warrior for us, playing hurt, and outright dominating when healthy. You can count on one hand (with a finger or two left over) the number of left tackles that you might say you'd be equally happy protecting Haskins, and I would think that would be worth more than a second round pick (yeah, I know he's 31 and coming off an injury and off year, but if you've seen the workout videos he's posted, he looks ready to go -- I am still amazed at the quickness of a guy that big).

Tackle is the one position that the Redskins seem to get right over the years (Samuels, Lachey, Jansen, Williams, and Jacoby -- I mean, what other team could boast a list like that?), and I hate to think we have to try to start over at that position. But it definitely sounds like we will have to.

Keep in mind an inquiry could mean - Hey are you really asking 20Mil? It doesn't mean that they are pursuing acquiring him. In fact every team with an average LT ought to be contacting him to find out where his asking point really is.

Although there may be several teams interested it doesn't necessarily mean a bidding war, if he only likes one of them then they can offer the minimum that the Redskins will accept, TW has a lot of leverage here if he is looking to go to a winner or to max out the dollars....

I hear you but the ship has sailed with Williams. He will always be one of my all time favorite skins for smacking Richard Sherman in his big mouth and for the reasons you state above but he wants absurd $ and honestly with his feelings about the team not the kind of dude you want around when trying to change the culture

Take the best offer we get for him and move on. Wish Trent all the best

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Yeah I think Trent will be traded due to a mutual desire between the team and Trent Williams. We’ll get a second or maybe even a first rounder, as well as increasing our cap to $72 mill and Trent will go to another team to finish his career and get the guaranteed big bucks he wants. I’m sorry to see him go but this might be better for everyone. Rivera wants players who want to be here and be part of his program.

Regarding the draft pick we get for Trent, I think it may go toward TE or WR versus an OT. Both WR and OT are deep in the draft while TE is very shallow. Kyle Smith might be able to wait until the third or fourth round to get a WR or OT.

The increase in cap may allow Scherff to get his contract versus franchising him. I still think that either Hooper or Henry will be a must hire in FA. Besides Scherff and Flowers and Hooper the team will hire Boston at FS, as well as a CB and LB in FA.

There is no chance Trent has the leverage he has a year left on his contract and if the Redskins do not like the offer(s) he could sit another year.

Some team is going to believe they’re getting a guaranteed top-5 left tackle for 3-4, maybe even 5 more years. That’s the duration of a rookie contact.
For contending teams with cap space who are in the market for a starting LT, why take a gamble on a first round rookie when they can get a pro-bowler?

Sure, a rookie is younger and there is the potential the team could draft a guy and lock up the position for 10-12 years, but that presumes they can resign him when his rookie deal expires. And a rookie - even a first rounder - could end up being a bust.

I’m calling it now - We’re getting first round level compensation.

Not calling you crazy at all.

My level of expectation right now is a 2nd + a 4th or less.

But yeah the fact several teams are showing interest is a good sign.

Not sure we get a 1st though, some of you were thinking the reports teams offered their 1st for TW last year were false, my guess is they were true, but that was last year, with 2 years left on his contract, not one. And the beginning of a season vs entering offseason isn't the same situation either.

So his trade value has to have decreased at least a little bit.

With the CBA, once approved, doing away with mj suspensions TW any team trading for TW won't have to worry about a 3rd strike. That should be a positive when it comes to assessing draft pick compensation.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Trent is a rested OT who will still play at a very good level at the most important position on the OL for several years. He’s got 7 pro bowls and is a team leader. Draft picks are crap shoots, especially as you go lower in the draft. Trent should easily get us a second rounder from the Dolphins or Jets. Maybe even a late first rounder from Miami.

This gets us a $72 mill cap, a second rounder which we don’t have now and sets the tone for Rivera for disgruntled players. Win-win and ends this drama which should have been dealt with competently last season.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

I am pretty sure Trent did not magically turn 22 years old from sitting out a year and now will play 16 games a year for 3-4 more years. People here are acting like he is a pro bowler in the prime of his career if they think someone will give a first rounder for him, not happening. He also wants an insane amount of money for a guy who played all 16 games only twice out of 10 seasons and the last one of those he was 25 years old. Even when he suiting up and playing he was often dinged up. He is high mileage for his age, not what a lot of you are projecting.

Even with all that said, he's still a less risky proposition than any tackle coming out of the draft who has never played a down in the NFL. He'll definitely cost more though.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

ill be a lil shocked if we get a first round pick, but just need one team to get desperate.

One guy I would stay away from would be Jason Peters...too old and coming off injuries last year.
