If you really listen to Ron's interview yesterday you can see he isn't 100% sold on SH and none of us are.. He said "He could be our guy" He said that last yr before trading for Wentz...

I don't buy anything he says

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread

He's a 5th round QB who has played in a handful of preseason games and started one NFL game. While he looked fine, there's absolutely no reason for Ron to be 100% sold on Howell. Ron saying Howell "could" be the guy is about as factual as you can get.

He doesn't call the plays in KC. He hasn't proven anything really. He hasn't been offered an NFL Head Coaching job because of that (and maybe bad interviews). That offense's success is all Andy. Having learned under him for the last nine years has to count for something though.

He needs to get out of Andy's shadow and prove that he can be successful. Coming here with a defensive Head Coach, a top 10 defense, and all these weapons at his disposal would be a good move in my opinion. However, if I were him, I wouldn't consider it unless RR lays out a meaningful plan for the O-line and QB.
Have to wonder too if he's been with Andy for 9 years, why are they not renewing his contract. It's not like the offense is struggling, and while it's mostly Andy's offense, why don't they want EB back??

If you ask me, I think overwhelmingly it's because they realize he needs to go somewhere else to move his career forward. Yeah, they could bring him back and he can work under Andy inevitably, but it doesn't appear as though that is getting him anywhere.

Which is why I think a veteran will be brought in I just hope its not Carr, he will cost too much

Plenty of legit question marks about EB which makes me really wonder if he's a legit quality candidate or not. If he came here I'd be in wait and see mode on him.

I don't know if I'm making a good comparison. But I think about Josh McDaniels, being under Bellichick shadows, in a team with a great QB (when Brady was in NE), and how he never got the scrutiny that EB seems to get. Hell, McDaniels had a terrible stint as a coach his first time around, and that didn't stop the Raiders from hiring him.

Rons interview on John Keims newest podcast is a must listen. Ron gives even more detail on Sam Howell and good info on the coordinator search.

I think the difference between the two situations is BB wasn't calling the offensive plays, McDaniels was. In KC it appears that AR is calling the plays, and while EB is obviously involved, his specific role isn't all that clear. He's definitely not autonomous, so how much credit does he deserve for the success of that offense?

I see Josh Harris toured the Commies practice facility the other week - per The Athletic.

Guess he's still in the mix.

Maybe. I definitely don't see a change before the season starts; and if they are competitive enough, or happen to make the playoffs, or win the Division, RR isn't going anywhere.

Whoever that supposed potential owner was, who knows if he/they will even be the new owner. If so, S Payton's not available anymore. Just sounds like someone simply doing their due diligence, putting out their feelers...if it's true.
