Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

The guy is 32 and can still play at a high level at one of the most important positions on the field. I think some are seriously underestimating his value.

No one is going to trade away draft picks for TW when they can sign a top quality veteran, or draft a week 1 starter in the 2020 draft.

TW not going anywhere.
Hey Trap.

Peters is 38 and oft injured, Bulaga is a RT. I think a team will offer a trade for 31 year old LT (32 come September). The biggest down driver of the value though to me, is still the fact a new team will most likely have to also show him the money.

A team with a win now window and no LT will make an offer. Question is whether its better than a 3rd.

Worst case scenario, he stays doesnt report, we place him on the reserve/non football injury list and collect a 3rd round comp for 2021 (assuming we dont sign a tier 1 FA to offset it)

The Panthers just gave away a 26 year old Guard, for Russell Okung, who is the same age as Trent. And while Okung has been a good tackle, he's nowhere near the level of play that Trent has produced.

If there was a market for Okung, there is DEFINITELY a market for Trent, as long as his agent is being reasonable in regards to the contract that he has.

Right, the key will be Trent agreeing to an extension and coming back down to earth with his demands. Once that falls in place it’s not hard to imagine a team coming up a worthwhile trade offer.

I mean it's a good sign, but just because teams are interested doesn't mean they are going to be willing to pay him what he wants and give the redskins what they want.

I have a feeling that Trent pulled a Kirk Cousins and made a demand that he knows the Redskins are not going to be able to give him, because he wants to move on.

Also, Trent no longer has any beef with the team, so it is not like teams can play chicken and wait until the team let's him go. So teams are going to have to compete for Trent, and that's only going to mean a better compensation for us.

Upgrading the offensive line is a priority for the Jets this offseason, so it’s no shock to hear their name come up in conjunction with left tackle Trent Williams. Williams has been given permission...

I think having great left tackles for about 20 straight years has made us desensitized to what it's like to have a problem at that position. Teams that haven't had a good LT in 20 years would give their left testicle for one.

Same way we felt about the QB position prior to seeing Kirk Cousins take the reins in 2015.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Call me crazy, but seeing that multiple teams are involved, I actually think we get a first rounder (or equivalent value) for Trent.

Some team is going to believe they’re getting a guaranteed top-5 left tackle for 3-4, maybe even 5 more years. That’s the duration of a rookie contact.
For contending teams with cap space who are in the market for a starting LT, why take a gamble on a first round rookie when they can get a pro-bowler?

Sure, a rookie is younger and there is the potential the team could draft a guy and lock up the position for 10-12 years, but that presumes they can resign him when his rookie deal expires. And a rookie - even a first rounder - could end up being a bust.

I’m calling it now - We’re getting first round level compensation.

A 1st rounder definitely isn't off the table if multiple teams are interested.

We shall see, maybe someone should put up a poll. Whether it happens pre draft or post draft I believe will make a big difference.

I don't think you're being objective in this instance. Year after year teams overpay for top LT's, in salary and draft picks both. I wouldn't be surprised if we can trade him for a second round pick.

p.s. Jason Peters, who was a great player, has lost more than a step and he's been hurt a lot. Brian Bulaga is a RT only. He's also been hurt a lot.

I remember the Shar Pourdanesh and Joe Patton years, so for me not so much

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Def not ruling out a first rounder especially if multiple teams get involved.

The difference between Trent and draft picks is you're getting a proven commodity that has been elite for almost a decade now, at a premium position in the league.

And sandtrapjack, it's not a matter of "if" he gets traded, it's a matter of when, and for how much.

Also Bulaga hasn't been elite in a while now, and Jason Peters is battling father time. Trent is definitely more desirable than both.

I'm thinking probably a second, maaaybe a first in the <20% chance a bidding war happens.
