If that's what it takes, that's a high but justifiable price. But's lets assume we stick to our guns and the price is closer to the Eli price.

2012 1st, 2012 3rd, 2012 4th, 2013 1st, 2013 3rd. Slightly higher than the original Eli deal but I adjusted for inflation. :-)

In that scenario, and knowing how Shanny deals, couldn't you envision Shanny trading down a couple of times in the 2nd to recoup the 3rd round pick (maybe both years) so our net roster 'loss' would just be the 2013 1st round pick?

In terms of 'all of the picks traded away' the true measure/cost is net players 'lost' so what's the number that people are comfortable with for RGIII?

Our most consistent wideouts are two old school vets and one in his prime. These newbies suck, minus Hankerson. I pull for Niles Paul, but I doubt he is going to cut the mustard outside of the PS. Don't even get me on our defensive backfield, minus Landry. Oh and don't forget we might be showing Fletch the door, which means our best LBs are Orakpo and the still green Kerrigan. ANd as for the quantity over quality stuff? Yeah that works if you have some depth, but we don't have that luxury, and sometimes quantity overcomes quality. Ask the Germans that fought two world wars about that. Sorry dude, but Manning is going to take one hit from Pierre Paul and co and lights out baby, the guy is going to be down for the count. If Peyton was smart he would just retire gracefully like Joey T. As for RG III, I have seen him earn his hype, then that KSU game he choked, so he is a good one, but I am not as sure he is going to be another Cam Newton.

Where to begin?

RGIII is a very rare talent for a QB. He has sub 4.4 speed, an exceptional passer (before runner) ability to progress through reads quickly, tremendous work ethic and apparently extremely "football" smart. He plays with a chip and thinks he should be the #1 pick.

We have a pretty decent RB core that really looked to pick up steam towards the 2nd half of the season. Our WR will no doubt be better this year with the additions of either VJax, Colsten...I think you get my drift here. TE, lets see Davis is a tremendous talent and if cooley is healthy could be one of the best TE tandem in the NFL.
O-line was killed by injury early. Williams, Lichenstieger (LG) Moore, Chester, and possible FA additions to the right side will make the Oline better. Lets not forget the guys that came in and played last year, did pretty damn well for never taking a snap.

Our secondary can be said to be questionable at best. Wilson came on at the end of the year, and Hall is hall. However with the young guys playing last year, gomes in particular i dont think lack of depth is a fair critique. LB core, Fletch isn't going any where, Riley will be a beast as he showed last year, Jackson is coming on. And the D line played pretty damn good too. Bowen, Cofield, Carriker, and Jenkins, Nield, I really think you are allowing the record do your thinking.

I personally am excited about the direction this team is headed. Your assesment seems a little off if you ask me.

Oh and regarding Cam Newton. Dude I live in Charlotte, and let me tell you what that one kid has done for Carolina Panthers football. he has exploded this city into excitement. They lost a bunch of games, but it wasn't because of him. the D was absolutely devistated by injury. they lost more games in the end because the D couldn't finish the game, not because Cam couldn't play. That team will be a very good team this season when they get all the players back on D and have a creative draft.

RGIII would be an extremely good thing for this franchise. That stadium will be jam packed to capacity rather than announching a cell out and having 70K people there. Plus the kid can play and will bring a level of excitement at QB this franchise has never seen.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

In the chase for PM, there are serious timing issues and, for some teams, internal issues that could cause a number of tire kickers to drop out of the pursuit soon.

Free Agency starts in one week and Peyton is not yet ready to throw for teams. Some teams are considering other FA QB's. The agents for the other FA QB's aren't going to be sitting still waiting for the PM situation to develop. Some team will drop out and make a move for Matt Flynn.

No NFL decision maker in his right mind is going to commit the future of his franchise and a whole lot of money to PM until Manning proves that he can make the requisite throws to be successful. Right now, he can't do that. The question is when will he be ready to throw? The bigger question is will he ever again be able to throw like an NFL QB? That is not a given. Until he does it, the risk of signing him is too great. Meanwhile, as time passes, teams must make their QB plans for the 2012 season.

Teams that have been mentioned as suitors have issues that must be resolved and soon, in some cases. For example;

Az owes Kolb a $7M roster bonus to be paid March 17th. Do they pay him or cut him?

Matt Flynn would seem to be a fit for MIA and coach Joe Philbin. What if Flynn signs elsewhere and PM can't play or goes elsewhere, as well?

Can the Jets take the risk of having to wait for PM and then end up cutting Sanchez without getting anything for him? Or do they pay both Sanchez and PM? What would that do to team chemistry?

Would Denver sign PM and risk wrecking Tebow's development?

Here is the ultimate delimma for some teams: What if PM is still not ready to throw by Draft Day?

Why is Manning not ready to throw for teams? From what I've heard, Peyton is throwing pretty good passes now - deep passes at that. While admittedly he's not 100%, there's no reason to believe he would not be 100% by training camp. I think what will force a lot of these teams out of contention for Peyton Manning will come down to money. Snyder can probably outbid almost any team, but it will also come down to where Manning wants to go.

Seems like most people think Miami would be the best place for Manning. I'll admit, I want him in Washington, but only if we also draft someone like Tannehill as well.

I'm w/ya here. Expectations will be high for PM or RGIII. The difference to me is that RGIII will have lesser expectations from the knowledgable fans & media since he's a rookie & obviously he's got more years ahead of him. I think the risk w/PM is greater for Shanny & Snyder than it is w/RGIII. PM won't cost draft picks, but him coming to DC will require very signficant changes IMO.

Of course, both PM & RGIII together aren't out of the question, just seems doubtful that much would be spent on the qb position this year. RGIII really seems like a guy that has the maturity to handle being the team savior, a la Cam.

All that sounds good. He looks the part. But doesn't history show that there's a 50% chance that either Luck or RG3 will be a bust? ... or won't live up to expectations?? I can't give up all those picks for Griffin. We're simply not in a position to do so.

I tuned into ESPN radio yesterday a couple of times and every time I heard someone say the Skins are not contenders for Peyton, citing this as the sole reason.

I wanted to scream. It's stupid and is obviously ESPN's talking point this week.

The Skins embarrassed the Giants with Grossman TWICE and Peyton has never backed down from challenges. He's one of the toughest competitors and hardest workers in the NFL...I doubt he's afraid of his little brother, the interception machine.

Manning on the Skins would vault us over the Giants. The NFC East is a very competitive division and the only thing that seems to really separate the teams is QB play. Us and the Cowboys have been suffering from inconsistent QBs. The Eagles never seem to have a starter who can stay healthy whether it was McNabb or is Vick now.

Add a top QB to any of the teams behind the Giants in the standings and they move to the top.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

I don't think a lot of people appreciate how good it is to have options for our QB situation. We have the opportunity to make a run at one of the best QBs of the past 10+ years, while using all of the draft picks and our cap space to build up the team. We also have the opportunity to trade up (since we seem to have the resource to do so) and draft a very good prospect coming out of college, while using our cap money and remaining draft picks to build up the team.

Both of these options can bring big rewards and they have their risks, just like anything else in the NFL. However, I would much rather have these options then being in a situation where we don't have a shot at RG3, we have no cap room, we have no shot at the Manning sweepstakes, and our best options at QB are Flynn, Henne, Orton, or Grossman.

You should of heard Mark Maske shit all over the Skins on Mike & Mike a few minutes ago. Basically in not so many words the Skins suck, they have no talent, so why would Peyton come here. Man the local media absolutely hate the Skins..

This is why I only listen to them when the commercials are on for Steve Czaban's show.

I don't find myself getting as angry when listening to Yahoo Sports Radio as I do with ESPN...not just the Skins, every topic. Jeremy Lin, LeBron James, Boston Red Sox and Tom Brady with wife seem to be on the agenda every day. Also, if you listen to one of their shows, you'll hear the same crap rehashed all day. Even hearing Cowturd's voice makes me rage, even on ads or commercials.

I agree with this actually.

The Giants would still have the better passing offense of the two teams, even if we got Peyton. But right now, that huge gap between well above average and average to below average throwing the ball is what's keeping the Giants above the Redskins. And Peyton would help us reach the point where you can say "the Redskins are better because they have a better defense."

Of course, perhaps we would decline on defense and the Giants would be better again. But that's hardly a certainty.
