Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

Just saw Choke last night on DVD. Waht a disappointment, I was really looking forward to that film and it just fizzled. Actualy to be honest I don't think I was not that crazy about the book either the story line sounds good but it just doesn't deliver. Chuck P is a good writter but at times I have trouble following his work.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

defiance was great (despite fake accents on the main characters - the supporting cast were actually real russian speakers).
slumdog was good.
ip man was pretty good (marial arts movie, with its background as china during occupation) - chinese w/ subs.
just got Waltz With Bashir, haven't watched it yet, but its supposed to be good. - hebrew w/ subs.

i finally watched city of god too (also subbed) and it wasn't bad either.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

Just saw Fast and the Furious. I have to say that although a little farfetched, they tied the story together nicely. The first "The Fast and The Furious" was a car display where they tried to incorporate a story line. In this one it was a story that incorporated cars. Having the original cast back was a delight. The ending shocked the hell out of me. If you only want to see the film for the racing sequences, then do not bother because it will leave you wanting (Go rent a street racing video). There is an actual script and the acting is much better than in the first.

Of course I am partial because I like racing films, but this goes way above the rest IMO.

Ummm, having Paul Walker on the big screen was a delight? That guy couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. I mean, I'm sure it was a better film than "Tokyo Drift" (for some reason I watched that whole movie on Cinemax a while back), but still. If you hit me in the head with a baseball bat, I'll spend the next 5 minutes or so doing my best Paul Walker impression.

Star Trek, GI Joe, Terminator Redemption, and Transformers 2 are all high on my list for upcoming films.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I just caught "Sin Nombre"- one of the best I've seen this year. First time director/writer from California who went down to Honduras and Mexico to capture a really good story. Incredible shots from the top of trains... the movie includes a crazy gang called Mara Salvatrucha (a real gang in LA and parts of South America).

I was talking more in terms of the entire cast. But since you want to talk about Paul Walker, he is much improved over the last 2 films (he had nowhere to go but up).

Those are on my list as well.

Let the Right One In was the best horror of last year... it was a shame it didn't get a lot of recognition... And did you really see Twilight!? I'll give you a pass on that one hahaha.

This one is suppose to be the next installment into French hardcore horror:

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I liked Wolverine. It wasn't too over the top that a lot of action movies fall prey too. It was none stop too. From the moment he ran away from home it was all action. The plot was simple to follow if you followed the comics or the previous X-Men movies, not so much if you hadn't.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I just got back from seeing Knowing. It was better than advertised. The critics need to get a real job because this movie was good. I thought it would stink but went because everyone else wanted to. Boy was I wrong. Finally an end of the world movie with a good ending, what a breath of fresh air. I will not ruin it for everyone but if you're a Coast to Coast AM guy like myself, you'll really dig this movie.

Really? I thought it was hilarious... super dark comedy. I like Jody Hill's humor (he's the guy behind Foot Fist Way and Eastbound and Down).
