Re: R.W. McQuarters

What exactly is it that McQuarters has done throughout his career that leads Redskins fans to believe that he is some high calibur, big time, immediate starter, free agent dynamo?

Because from where I`m standing, he appears to be more of a ~tail end of a not so illustrious career, best days are behind him, oh wow he can return kicks kinda guy...

What have I been missing? Did the Bears release the best kept secret in the NFL? Has he secretly been elected to several pro bowls that I`m unaware of? Is he the illegitimate son Greg Williams?

Someone please explain what it is that makes R.W. McQuarters such a signifigant addition to the Washington Redskins? Because I personally still don`t see it?

Re: R.W. McQuarters

I don't think that anyone has alluded to him being the Super Bowl secret to the Redskins defense. I think we are mainly seeing him as a person who can step in, in case someone goes down.

Nice overreaction. Didn't the press conference address other issues too?

For the simple fact that GWilliams and Co have interest in him. If they think that he will be a good addition to the team, why should we question him? Maybe they actually know what they're doing; after all they did turn our D into one of the more feared units in the league last year.

Not only that, there are a number of coaches AND players who have lots of previous experience with him.

Re: R.W. McQuarters

They're loooking for DB depth. He was in Chicago with Blache and the others. He's not a BAD player. The press conference was a regular briefing by Gibbs. He only mentioned McQuarters when asked by a reporter, and said that he'd be a nice addition, that he'd worked with 5 of the coaches before, etc. BUt don't expect them to break the bank. They don't have any real cap space anyway. We'll see.

This isn't the next Deon fiasco. Don't worry!

Re: R.W. McQuarters

Exactly. I think that the overspending days are gone. Possibly questionable draft pick, but that's about it as far as us having a bad offseason. When you really think about it, judging by who was available and for what price, we had a GREAT offseason.

We did what we could with Coles.
We addressed areas of need.
We defined our receiving corps without having to draft anyone.

Personally, with other factors in the league, I'm not sure it could have gone any better.

Normally I agree with your posts, But this one I thought was a little off...

We didn't pick up a nice receiver (yet) and I think Coles REAMED us... We didn't address all areas of need, we have depth at LB but no clear cut starter in the middle yet. We have no pass rushing DE that we all said we coveted in the draft or through FA. Hopefully that is also a not yet comment...

We haven't really cleared up much of anything except that we aren't going to over pay... I don't think it has been a great offseason, but time will tell if we made the right decisions...

Re: R.W. McQuarters

Like I said, we did the best we could with Coles. That's the only turd in the bowl in my opinion of this offseason.

I think that Moss IS a nice receiver and we always seem to forget that Patten's YAC is ridiculous. Most of Moss' receptions go for first downs (77%) and Patten's YAC is around 20.0. Taylor Jacobs is poised for a break-out season (or a cut next year). We have Phillip Daniels returning who should provide a great rush and our other ends provided pretty good pressure up front.

The reason I mention our receivers is that I'm not just thinking about our team, I'm also thinking about what's available.

The only receiver in that was available this year that I would have liked to have had was Derrick Mason, but again at what cost? There were options available in the draft but WR wasn't REALLY a position of need. CB definitely was.

When I say we had a great offseason, I like to think of it in the whole picture of things. I'm still concerned about the Campbell pick, but as you said, time will tell about that one.

And also just like you said, we cleared up that we weren't going to overpay. To get the players that you stated that we needed (what was available in the offseason AND in the draft) we would have overpaid in either monetary funds or draft picks.

It's definitely subjective how you view this year's draft, but I think with what was available, ours was a success.

Re: R.W. McQuarters

Nobody is saying McQuarters is a savior, but let me ask these two questions, is he an upgrade to our depth? Is he better than say, Jimoh and Wilds?

My answer is without a doubt yes to both questions.

Plus the guy is a valuable return man. I don't see what's not to like about picking him up.

Re: R.W. McQuarters

I also noticed on the WP calendar that your birthday is a week before mine. Rock on October b-days. It's a special year for me, 24.

Well, not really. Just another year closer to 30!

Re: R.W. McQuarters

Holy cow, I WILL be 30.

Anyway I normally really agree with your posts and I think that is why I love this site, because of good topically discussions.

I really think we had a pretty weak draft. I think we gave up a lot for the 25th pick (And if he is the next Culpepper then GREAT!) and we could have used a solid DE there with tat pick or used the first on a DE, or WR and picked up a good CB with the 25th.

I think WILDS is going to be a hell of a player. He almost shut down Moss last year.

Our WR are avg at best. We don't have to have a number 1 like Owens, Moss, or Holt, but I think we need role players in that position. Hopefully Taylor will pan out but that is a big "?"

I really hope you are right, I am glad we aren't overspending on players, but we have invested and will invest a lot of money in the QB position this year and while it is important we shouldn't have 2 first round QBs and Brunell sucking away all that $$$...

Re: R.W. McQuarters

I do agree with what you say about the 25th pick. I definitely think we gave up a lot for Campbell. Draftwise I think we were average. OffSEASONwise I think we did a great job.

Re: R.W. McQuarters

i like campbell. i don't care what we gave up for him though, because near the draft next year i don't i will hear a lot of complaints that we don't have a first rounder, that is, if the skins do good this season.

Re: R.W. McQuarters

No way you give up what we did for that pick...

Also we had a OK offseason. We did sign depth but no real studs unless the center we signed will be big for us this year.

I am not saying I don't like Campbell. What I am saying is that we certainly had some choices and routes we could have gone with those 2 picks and I am not sure that we were effective in the draft this year. The pick I like the most is McCunes, considering where we took him and his upside.

I am glad out of the CB available that high we got Rodgers...

But we really could have use D line help and we didn't get it.
