I understand that but our D also had a bunch of injuries and if we would have scored 19 points a game last year we would have been around 10-6, 11-5 right???

I would have "ripped the move" only after a dozen folks here would have been proclaiming the A-Train as a sure-fire Hall of Fame RB who would have already had several Pro Bowl seasons if only the Chicago Bears had had an OL of any ability and/or a coaching staff who could find their asses with either hand.

Anthony Thomas is a good but certainly not great RB at the NFL level. He goes to the Cowboys to back up Julius Jones. Last year that was done by Eddie George who HAD a glorious NFL career but it is OVER now; two years ago, the Cowboys had Troy Hambrick as their fetaured RB for most of the year and it isn't much of a mystery that Hambrick is a journeyman wannabe.

Therefore, Thomas is an upgrade to the Cowboys' RB situation.

Thomas would ALSO be an upgrade to the Skins as a back-up to Portis when you compare him to Betts and/or Cartwright in that same role. But that's as far as I would go in praising him in his incarnation in Dallas or in some future life here in DC.

Living in Texas.......they had a great draft and made some good offseason moves, but the players will have to adopt to a change to a 3-4 defense, then they still have question marks on offense......On the OL Larry Allen and Flozell Adams are starting to show their age, and the ex- Packer, Rivera had back surgery in the offseason. And they have an immobile QB who needs a good line, and show him pressure and Drew folds. Their receivers haven't shown much...Glenn and Keyshawn.....nothing special. They got a good RB in Jones......and anybody is better than Eddie George.......

Don't try to say that the Redskins' defense of 2004 was comparable to that defense; it simply wasn't. Going directly to the bottom line, the Skins in 2004 lost TEN games not ONE.

AND, the Skins' defense had the chance in several games hold onto a victory because they took a small lead into the middle/late stages of the 4th quarter and that defense did not hold the lead. Go review the tapes for Cleveland Browns and Dallas II as examples. There was probably another one but I can't pull it from memory at thie moment (Cincy?). The 85 Bears didn't do that. Neither did the Ravens or the Bucs in their Super Bowl years. With a lead and six minutes to play, those teams were money in the bank.

SC, you said great defenses don't wear out, all I referred to was one example where one of the greatest defenses of all time got run-ragged, that's all. I'm not comparing the Skins D of last year to the Bears of '85.

That being said, the Skins D last year was very good, but certainly not great. Still, you can win plenty of games in this league with a very good defense, hopefully the offense can pick up some of the slack this year and start pulling their own weight. Our 10 losses last year were much more indicative of our offensive struggles than it was to any defensive "breakdowns". The D overachieved last year, with very little help from the offense and several key injuries they had to overcome. Any arguments as to why we had a losing season shouldn't involve blaming the defense.
