Re: Skins leading the NFL in total offense & defense
Excited about tonight's game! I do agree that this game will be a true measuring stick as to how the Redskins should perform during the regular season. I also agree with a lot of you who said there seems to be a difference in confidence of players this year. Coach Shanahan wanted to come in and change the philosophy around Redskins Park, and I think so far, he's doing it. It's still going to take at least another year or so to get this team into being a consistent winner, but I am loving the changes we have seen so far.

Re: Skins leading the NFL in total offense & defense
Preseason stats are not as definitive, but the rankings are not complete mirages. For example, we had the 28th ranked rush D last preseason. That certainly did translate in the regular season, as we finished 26th.
Our passing defense was a different story, as the preseason rankings had us in the top 5 yardage-wise but we finished 30th. The difference between a mirage and the "read deal" is seeing if there are major "danger signs", and so far, I haven't many "danger signs" like in preseasons past. Then again, with such a small sample size, total yards is a worse stat to use than average yards per (run/attempt)
