It's criminal that Fletch misses out again...

I feel really bad for Fletcher who is possibly the best MLB in the game but good to see Orakpo get in as a rook and hope he wins DROY

Re: Redskins in 2010 Pro Bowl

To me, the most interesting thing is that Orakpo, who as we all know is listed as a LB/DE made the pro-bowl as a outside linebacker, not a defensive end. I would say that as a linebacker, Orakpo is mediocre, at best. He's made the most plays when he's had his hand in the dirt, lining up as DE. To be honest, if he didnt make the pro-bowl as a DE then I really don't think he deserved to make it. Surely, there's got to be a more deserving linebacker out there.

For fletch to get in the team has to be winning, it has to become a team goal. Vilma got in because the Saints are one of the hottest teams in the NFC. Rak should win the DRoy. Is he the only rookie to make it to the probowl?

The Pro Bowl is a joke apparently. How could it be taken seriously? No Fletch...no credibility.

Re: Redskins in 2010 Pro Bowl

Fletcher's chances rest with Saints; Carter is 2nd alternate
There is a chance that London Fletcher could play in his first Pro Bowl after all. Fletcher was named a first alternate to the NFC's team, which might not have meant a whole lot in past years. But this year, the Pro Bowl is being played one week before the Super Bowl, so any players who have a role in deciding the league's championship will sit out the all-star game.

What does that mean for Fletcher? Well, if New Orleans reaches the Super Bowl, linebacker Jonathan Vilma would be unable to play in the Pro Bowl -- clearing a path for the first alternate.

Fletcher has never played in the Pro Bowl but was a third alternate each of the past two seasons. He was also alternate in 2002, 2005 and 2006.

Andre Carter has been chosen to the team as a second alternate. Minnesota's Jared Allen, Carolina's Julius Peppers and Philadelphia's Trent Cole were selected ahead of Carter to play defensive end for the NFC's team.

I think Byrd and Cushin also made the Pro Bowl

And I'm pretty sure I saw that Andre Carter is an alternate as well as Fletch

Yeah, I just read that Fletcher is a first alternate, which would mean that if the Saints make it to the Super Bowl he'd probably be in since Vilma wouldn't play in the Pro Bowl.
And Carter is a second alternate, so he probably has an outside shot.

EDIT: What Cult said...

Cushing made it in and he is a rookie I'm pretty sure

Let's hope the Saints go all the way so Fletcher can play.

Re: Redskins in 2010 Pro Bowl

The reason Fletch didn't make this year is the reason he never makes it. He's not perceived to be a playmaker. Fletch is a solid linebacker who consistently accumulates good stats year after year. To be more specific, he's good in pass coverage but not great. Vilma, on the other hand, while he may not be as rounded as Fletcher is considered more of playmaker. Particularly in coverage and defending passes.

I think Fletcher is derserving of a Pro Bowl nod this year, but it's obvious they're looking at something different when grading Fletcher.

Re: Redskins in 2010 Pro Bowl

Just wondering, if Orakpo had a sudden "injury" would that bring Fletch in to the Pro Bowl? Not saying he should could or would sit out his first appearance, but would his missing the game allow Fletch to make a PB appearance?

I thought that Andre Carter had an equally strong case, but definite congratulations to Brian Orakpo.
