Re: Do You Want Jason Campbell Back in 2010?

Give Campbell the protection that Tony Romo and Eli Manning had the last two weeks against our defense, and he will do just fine, especially with our improving young receivers. There is a reason that a high percentage of Campbell's completions are under 10 yards - if the ball isn't out of his hand in 2-3 seconds, he's usually getting planted by the opposing pass rush. If Bruce Allen's highest priority isn't bolstering the O-line, then it will be business as usual with dysfunction continuing to reign around here.

No.

He has a couple of games where you think he's ok and you can win with him, then he goes back to playing really dumb and you wonder what you saw in him.

So frustrating.

I'm tired of yelling "throw it! throw it! throw it!.....damn, sack" or "step up! step up! step up!.....damn, sack" or "run with it! run with it! run with it!.....damn, sack".

He is tough and has heart but that does not always make a good/great NFL QB.
No, for the reasons you state. He played well for a stretch after the change in playcaller, but has returned to form in the past two games. It certainly is not all his fault, and he probably was never given a great chance to succeed in Washington for a variety of reasons, but it is time to move on rather than get caught in a Jake Delhomme/Marc Bulger/David Garrard type situation (average to below average QB with an above average contract). In a perfect world the Skins could get some compensation for him (a 28 year old QB with starting experience and good statistics should be worth something). In a fantasy land we might hope for a 2nd, but it would probably be more realistic to look for a 4th (that is, give him a high tender as an RFA and then negotiate a trade with another team).

Re: Do You Want Jason Campbell Back in 2010?

I'm going with a no, and I consider myself a staunch Campbell supporter. But it was something about the Dallas game that said to me this guy, even given all the right pieces, will only get marginally better. Like I said in the other thread, Campbell does a lot of things okay, but not one thing great. And by now, good offensive line or not, you should be able to have something that you are great at as an NFL quarterback. My biggest criticism of Campbell is that he lacks football instincts. No amount of coaching can compensate for that.

Furthermore, this team has only won 4 games this season. I think you could put Jeff Garcia at the helm and get similiar, if not better results.

It isn't terribly likely that either is great.. Great QBs like Manning/Brady/Brees/Rivers come every few years out of what like 12-13 QBS taken in the first round? Not good odds. I just don't like the risk/time requirement needed isn't worth it when we have a guy that can be a winner. And I don't like that we can't really tell how good he is since he is constantly getting pounded.
I agree and I voted yes as well. There are only a small handful of "great" QBs on earth. We're sure not going to get anyone better than JC in FA, and no one we could draft will step in as a rookie and play better than JC.

I'd like to see what he can do with some system consistency when he's not getting beaten to a pulp every single game. I heard Larry Michael say that Jason was sitting in an ice tub with a black eye after the Giants game on MNF last week. And we all saw the shots he took against Dallas. He gets the sh*t kicked out of him every week, and he never complains, and always gets back up, sticks his chin out, and keeps fighting. Gotta love that. Give the man some protection and he'll be fine.

I've said this ad nauseum, but I do think we should draft a guy later in the draft like a Tony Pike or Dan Lefevour to develop as well.

One more thing, let's no confuse me not wanting him to come back with if he does, I think he can succeed. So if Campbell indeed returns, I'm okay with that too. But I'd much rather the team move on and seek other solutions at the QB position.

And no, Colt Brennan is not the answer!

Re: Do You Want Jason Campbell Back in 2010?

The offensive line's struggles are too often a crutch or an excuse for Campbell's own struggles.

I struggle with this because I know it's not really Campbell's fault where he was drafted. But you don't trade multiple picks to get into the first round to draft a QB that can play well if everything around him is running smoothly. You spend a 6th round pick on a QB out of Washington State to do that.

Not to derail this thread but for the NO folks out there, let's say you get your wish and he doesn't return. Who do you envision under center for the Redskins for the next 3 years and what is your confidence level that they will be better?

How much of this is the 80-20 rule meaning the most you will ever get is 80% of what you want from someone but many continue to chase that elusive 20% but never find it.

A young QB would take 3 or 4 years to develop and JC is ready now "with better protection"
Yes we should draft a rookie, BUT go out and sign a FA veteran QB (Bulger) or someone like that just incase. We are rebuilding anyway right?

Re: Do You Want Jason Campbell Back in 2010?

I'm not sure who I envision under center.

But let's say it's Bradford, I'm not convinced that in 3 years we'll be a better team with Campbell behind center than him.

It's a good question, Pain. Something I don't easily have the answer to

Well seeing that we are currently sitting at four wins with the quarterback of the future leading the team, I'll take my chances on a new face. Even if we brought in a rookie, I doubt this team could do worse than four wins.

Look at what Shanahan did for someone like Jake Plummer. He had his best years under him, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think Shanahan could work wonders with JC, assuming he wants him as his QB.

I am 100% certain whoever they bring in can do as good as JC did this year. I am 85% confident that person will play better than JC this year.

Re: Do You Want Jason Campbell Back in 2010?

You took my damn caviat away from me so I had to vote no.

I guess I should have voted yes only cause I do think he's an ok QB. He would be one of the best damn backups out there. By saying yes I would not be saying he's the starter just on the team next year to allow Shanahan to hopefully decide who starts.

But I could see if we are looking to turn this inside out just starting completely over.

3 Years? So you'r saying you want JC for 3 more yrs? Campbell has had multiple chances to prove his worth. I like him as a player, he's a gamer but we have had this guy for long enough.. His poor decisions and bad pocket awareness kills me, it's like he never see's a BLITZ coming. It's not only this year, it's all the time. He never completes passes deep down field, and his motion is terrible. I'm 85% sure he won't be here next season and to be honest I don't think he wants to stay .
