Re: how about shaun rogers?
Depends, if you think you're a player away from competing then Rogers is the better option. However if you want a more consistent player then Robertson is your guy. Plus Robertson is two years younger making him about 27 going into to next season while Rogers is pushing 30.
Rogers seems to be playing great part of the season and poorly during other parts. However winning has a strange way of motivating people

Re: how about shaun rogers?
Smoot, is this why you asked about Robertson:
"Defensive line also is an area of interest, but it could be a primary target in the draft. Cerrato has told several agents that he aims to bolster the pass rush, ideally from the interior of the line. The Redskins might talk to the New York Jets about defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, who is on the trading block. " How about that, you got we to give an unbiased opinion of Robertson before I knew the Skins' were considering trading for him. If we can get him for a second day pick that would be great. I think the main reason the Jets are dealing him is to get cap room, but I'll have to look into that. ESPN Insider: Jets shopping Robertson Dewayne Robertson | Jets | Interested: Broncos? Robertson, who is a poor fit for the Jets' 3-4 scheme and carries an $11.2 million cap number, is on the trading block, the New York Daily News reports. The Broncos are among a handful of teams showing interest in the 26-year-old defensive tackle, according to the newspaper. Robertson is scheduled to make $9.8 million in 2008 and is signed through 2009. He's produced only 14.5 sacks in five seasons, but many scouts and personnel people believe Robertson could thrive in the right 4-3 system. I like it. Hopefully they can get his cap numbers up to speed.

Re: how about shaun rogers?
Hmmm. No that's the first I've seen that. I heard yesterday that he might be on the trading block and I meant to ask if y'all thought he was a better option than Rogers. But then I forgot to ask until I saw this thread pop up again.

Re: how about shaun rogers?
My guess is that the Jets are looking for no higher then a 3rd round pick. I say this because right now the Lions are currently going to trade Rogers for a 2nd or 3rd round pick from the Bronco's and Rogers is a 2 time Pro-Bowler so on paper he looks better.
I still say that its possible to bring him in for a 5th or 6th round, in part because Troy Williamson (a former 7th overall pick) was traded to the Jaguars for salary cap reasons in exchange for a 6th round pick. Of course Robertson is more productive then Williamson but his cap number seems to be the main reason for the trade. I believe it's 9 million this year, but the good new's is that we won't be responsible for any of the signing bonus, of course knowing the Redskins they'd probably renegotiate. If it was for a second day pick I would love it. For one I think his arrival here would be similar to Griffins a few years back, and it would allow us to come away from the draft with a DB, OL, and DE. Ironically I found a pretty good commentary on ES. Remember this is written by a member. In my opinion he's either really smart or he copied it straight out a newspaper: Quote: Originally Posted by Darth Tater By moving DeWayne before June, the Jets would shave almost $4M off their cap. He's got a 9.8M cap figure now, 6.8 is salary and the rest is the 2008 allocation for his bonus. He also has anothr 3M currently scheduled to be allocated in 2009. He's due a $3M bonus in June that is a 'fish or cut bait' roster bonus often used in lieu of voidable years. Remember, this bonus has yet to be paid. So, we have 11.8M cap hit if he plays for the Jets versus about 6M if he's traded before June. Only thing is, I don't know their current dead-money situation or how they manage that pool, so they may not want to be adding 6M to the dead-money pool although sunk money is sunk money. The team that does the trade will take around $a 4M cap hit if they don't extend him but did just a standard re-work. With a re-worked contract that he'd most likely be given, he'd have a 2008 hit of around 2 to 2.5M (he would end up pocketing about 12.5M this year and another 10 to 13 next year at the 2.5 figure). So with that said looks like we could bring in Robertson for a late second day pick.

Re: how about shaun rogers?
the jets fans hate him. they have him playing NT and he just can't do it. for a 2nd day pick maybe, but i'd be hesitant to give up a 3rd for him. if it's a 5th, yeah, sure. I'd do that all day... i'd sign him long term too, since he's cheap now.
as far as rogers vs him... rogers is clearly a much better player, but he's also much more expensive and stays on the field for shorter periods of time, while also costing us a higher pick for an old guy. |

As long as the Dolphins don't beat us to it I will go on record and predict the Redskins trade a 5th round pick for Dewayne Robertson.

Re: Update: Bengals Acquire DT Rogers
Doesn't it feel weird to be sitting here with all this trading and signing going on and us not participating in it?

Yes. It is like we are lost puppies on the side of a major interstate and 18 wheelers keep flying by and knocking us over. It feels so weird as all these deals whoosh by.

Re: how about shaun rogers?
Rogers is so overrated. Lazy, fat, out of shape underachiever who takes too many plays off. We don't need that bum. Griff, Montgoemry and Griff can hold it down against the run. They may not be the best pass rushers but we don't need to give up draft picks for a guy who isn't motivated.

I agree that Rogers is the better player but Robertson is younger and I believe that with restructuring his contract (which will inintially be without signing bonus) he'll be cheaper for us. The Jets will have an easier time at NT with a space eater like Jenkins so the Jets got what they wanted. I think if we get Robertson that you'll be pleasantly surprised. Blache and co., usually do a good job at getting the most out of underachievers. Nevertheless I respect your opinion considering that you're definately one of the more knowledgeable posters around here.
