I agree with your QB depth chart projection....however, it seems most here are not thrilled with the idea of Mark Brunell as a long term backup.

I agree, based on age.
Brunell does have an unbeatable attitude.
He is the ultimate team player...he gave us some amazing games against Dallas....he actually gave us some hope that we haven't had for a very long time...before Brunell got in synch with Moss....he was basically average.
I really hope Brunell stays around for a long time...but as a 3rd stringer or coach next year....beyond that he may hurt us.
I love his attitude. We need other Redskins to pick that up.
The only thing we need is a potential starter at number 2.....right now, we dont have that. I really dont know of any QB available that has that potential. (excluding Culpepper, who is walking on eggshells).

For you Brunell haters...please tell me who we pick up at this point (except Culpepper) to replace him at number 2?

Re: Brooks Works Out For The Skins?!

It's a little late to be looking to cut your #2 QB and bring in a guy that would need to learn the system on the go during camp.

Brooks was probably here for a workout just as a precaution in case MB's shoulder wasn't coming along.

Nothing to get too excited about.

Exactly. Thank you for bringing some sense back into the thread.

Experience in the system goes a long way. While I wouldn't be thrilled to have MB as our starter (in the event of a JC injury), I would be a little upset if we cut him. I know he has a big salary, but I think he's probably one of the top 10 most important players on the team.

Re: Brooks Works Out For The Skins?!

i cant believe we are talking about Aaron freaking Brooks. the guy has done nothing but lose games, and commit turnovers, his entire NFL career. and some of you guys want him here? what the hell is going on around here? i am not big on Brunell, ill take him every day of the week, and twice on Sunday, over Brooks

Brooks started 4 years in a row for NO. 16 games. During that time he threw 98td's and 51 ints. That is pretty damn good. Almost a 2 to 1 TD Int rate. The last year in NO nobody played well. I mean, how could anyone play well under those circumstances?? Also who could play well last year in Oak? Could you imagine MB playing in Oak last year? Please. It would have been ugly.

If we would have brought this guy in here in Jan. and coached him up, he would be a better QB than Brunell at this point. No question about it. He is younger and has better skills. He has all the tools to be a very good QB. But at this point it's way too late to bring in anybody.

Have you ever seen the guy play? He's a turnover machine. In the seasons he played a full year, he had close to 20 interceptions and fumbled a dozen times.

I hope we stay far away from this guy, even as a 3rd-stringer.

Re: Brooks Works Out For The Skins?!

Didn't we learn anything after seeing MB struggle in picking up this system last year? It takes a good year to get comfortable in this offense and some here want to cut BOTH Brunell and Collins??

Thank god the fans don't run the team I swear.

Re: Brooks Works Out For The Skins?!

The workout was a month ago, according to the article. Plus I don't think people realize how common this is, for an unsigned player to work out with the team. It happens all the time during the week, even during the regular season. It doesn't always mean something. Just a chance for the player to get some work in and the team to rest some of their guys. Plus, with Brooks being from Newport News, VA Redskins Park is just a few hours away.

Of course, if the Redskins sent someone down to work Brooks out then just ignore everything I wrote in this post

So let me ask you this. If we could upgrade the back-up QB position, but the guy had to learn the system. Would you bring him in? Or, would you take a guy who has less talent, but keep him around just because he knows the system?

Personally, I think all this taking a year to learn an offense is a bunch of BS. How about running less plays and executing them better?

Yea, he might be able to sit on the pine with ease but learning the play book is another story. MB as a starter no way, MB as a back up is very solid. Now if Janson got injured early on and out for the season that would really hurt but if MB only has to play a couple of quarters or games he should be fine as his body can handle that. We just don't have the luxery right now of bringing in someone new to learn this system and maybe have to play.

What if the replacement is more permanent? Coaches watch game film, and they'll tear apart the 20 plays we have allowed our new qb to run. If Mark is healthy, keep him. Id rather have a smart veteran backup with the full playbook, then a younger backup(prone to making more mistakes) with 30% of the playbook.

I don't want to turn my back on Mark until he forces me to by retiring.

Your comment would assume that Brooks would be an upgrade, and he is a downgrade. Have you guys not watched any of his games the past 3 years? Brooks is TERRIBLE, I'll take Brunell any day.
Of course, you could get me on board with cutting Brunell if Culpepper was the guy. Brooks just sucks...and sucks bad. There is a reason no team has picked him up, and there is a reason that there wasn't much buzz about him when he went to Oakland.
If it's about stats...why don't we pick up Kerry Collins? (that is just a joke)

Re: Brooks Works Out For The Skins?!

I doubt Todd Collins was trying to Bs anyone when he said the playbook takes a year to learn.

Regardless of that, when you're talking about your backup QB what you want is someone who can basically provide Jason Campbell another set of eyes from the sidelines. Someone who can talk him through problems, can read the defenses, and understand what the offenses is trying to accomplish. For most, if not all, of that you need someone who knows the playbook and the tendencies of the guys on the team.

Again, it's a little late in the game to be bringing new guys in, especially at the QB position.

MB is a perfectly capable backup and the value of him being on the sidelines to help mentor Campbell is something that can't be underestimated.

Unless it's due to injury, teams just don't bring guys in this late in the offseason for the sake of "upgrading" the position.
