Re: Best and Worst Customer Service

eventually if you outsource too many jobs, the demand for workers outpaces supply in the target country, so wages and land values start to raise and you're either saving less than you thought you would, or you're moving to an even cheaper country (like romania).

as for our economy, no, it doesn't hurt it horribly except for all the unemployed outsourcing creates... for everyone else there are cheaper prices. the paradigm shift wouldn't occur until unemployment becomes much much worse. most factory work already disappeared and now a substantial amount of tech work is going (but a smaller % of the tech population than that of the steel workers etc). It does creat other jobs (management etc), though not as many as it replaces.

If people weren't so concerned with saving money (businesses and consumers both) than outourcing wouldn't exist. however, as i'm sure you can count the number of people you know that burn money on one hand, globalization is inevitable.

Worst customer service-Popeye's. I went to a Popeye's once in Tenleytown in Washington, DC. Had a craving for some fried chicken. So I'm sitting there having lunch. And suddenly I feel my shoes are a bit wet. So I look down and there's this massive puddle of water all around me. I look across the restaurant and notice that it's coming from the restrooms. So I get up and walk over to the manager "Hey, listen the whole back area is flooding with water" Manager's response "Yeah we know, there's an toilet overflowing" my reply "Do you plan on doing anything about it? Cleaning it? Roping off that section?" Manager: "Nah, we'll take care of it later" I walked right out of there, never to return.

Re: Best and Worst Customer Service

i don't know about best customer service, but for worst, I'd say Comcast or Verizon. I've had both as internet providers, and each one sucks. My internet was down for a couple days a few months ago, and i had to call comcast to get it hooked back up, and i did. I spent like half an hour waiting, and when they did pick up, they kept transferring me to a section of the company, and to a different person and so on, it took me a while to get my net back up, and i was pissed at the end.

Ironically, tonight's poignant Simpsons episode is all about outsourcing, when Homer has to go and train the new power plant employees in India. Hilarity ensues.

Re: Best and Worst Customer Service

Comcast has sucked for My family so far. My mom got it all set up a whole month ago and we STILL DON"T HAVE HIGHSPEED INTERNET, because each time something else is wrong. I've talked to at least 3 people myself for several hours and each time they say something different....... and most of it is some crazy bullshit like " we have to wait to get all the paper work" or "we have to send a request to the local comcast" or blah blah blah.

My dad, not a Simpsons fan, started watching that episode during the "Apocolypse Now" scene and was cracking up. But, then the show ended with that song and dance number and he got pissed. The last time I saw him that upset was when the Skins lost the season opener to the big d-bags in OT a few years ago.

The IT people at my work are terrible when it comes to customer service. They are seriously like the old Jimmy Fallon character on SNL. They act like you're an idiot for calling with a question. It's always a joy to have a computer problem around here.

I just meant the IT help within the office. We do nothing of value for anyone, at least not that I know of.

When I used to work at the mall back in college I think I was pretty good at the old customer service. i once kicked in the fitting room door because the lock got jammed and a woman was stuck in it. It was my lunch break and everything.

It was like 3 or 4 years ago, but I'll accept the nomination. When I took that retail job I never thought I'd get to say, "Ma'am, please stand as far back in the corner as possible because I don't want the door to hit you in the face when I kick it in!" Good times.

Honestly, I wasn't quite so heroic. I think it took me like 5 shoulder bumps, then three or four kicks until it got to a point where I could bash it open with my shoulder.

However, if you ever feel the need to kick in a door, remember, kick close to the knob. Also, be careful, because if it's a cheap door there is a good chance that your foot just goes right through it.
