Are you out of your f-ing mind? Green was a 7 time pro-bowler and is the original shut down corner. Not to mention he was huge returning punts. |

He changed they way CB's had to play the game and also how they had to be built like Moss also has in this time for me that's a top WR and I'm not saying this because I'm a Cowboy, it's just based on what the athlete brought to the game. Like I've said Green should and will be a first baloot HOF he is 1 of the best CB's ever to play the game and it's defenetly in my top 10 All time. __________________ |

My post was more of a testament to what has happened to Art Monk (who held several *meaningful* records either during his career or at retirement) than it was to whether or not 28 should be a first ballot HOFer. In a perfect world, they both should be HOFers, but we've all seen what has happened to Art Monk, and if it happened to him, then it is not outside the realm of reality to think it could also happen to DGreen.

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
Darrell Green is a 1st ballot HOFer if I've ever seen one. He played at a very high level for most of his career and he has created several lasting memories. Maybe that's why the HOF can be viewed as a popularity contest, I mean Lynn Swann got in solely because of a couple of circus catches that just so happened to be in the Super Bowl. I can still see DG hurdling that Bear on a punt return and running into the end zone holding his rib.
Monk was fantastic for us, moved the chains, made the tough catch in traffic, did his thing every game, and was even the career leader in receptions and consecutive games with a catch when he retired and even was the first wideout to break 100 catches in a season. He is without a doubt among the best Redskins to ever wear the uniform, however when you think of Monk you think of a possession receiver. Yet in 4 more seasons he only caught 3 more tds than Irvin. I don't see Monk getting in unless the veterans bring him in. |

On the contrary, by the numbers Brown and Carter should be ranked 2nd and 3rd. But they played so long, and played in a passing era. So I had to bump them down to the bottom of the top 10. But not lower than Irvin, after all, those numbers are sick. In the end, Brown and Carter get the nod for me.

Re: Darrell Green... first ballot hof?
I would be surprised if he went in the first year of eligibility. He is a remarkable athlete and a great corner. But, there may be other people that they are looking at that have been on the list for many more years. Deon will probably be a 1st ballot. I hate the guy, but he did make the corner position what it is today. He was the best in his prime. I dont remember teams completely avoiding D. Greens side of the field as much as Deon, or even Champ. I hope he goes his first year, but with the writers voting, not the players, its hard to say.
