Re: Season Game Ball?

Of course there are too many guys to mention, this season was an amazing collective effort by all, from the front office on down.

But if I had to put my finger on one guy, one guy that really epitomized our season, I would have to go with Portis and how he just carried our offense the last 5 games.

Big-time players step up when your season is on the line, and Portis during these last 5 games became a true Redskin legend in my mind.

Just look at this stat line:
Rams: 27-136-2
Cardinals: 26-105-1
Cowboys: 23-112
Giants: 27-108-1
Eagles: 27-112-2

Those are big time games, folks. 3 division wins, season on the line, and Portis played his best ball of the season. You can't ask for anything more than that.

It's so hard to pick just one, but gun to my head I'd have to go with Portis. Not necessarily because of his stats, but because, like Coach Gibbs says, it's what he does when he doesn't have the ball. His blocking is just phenominal and has helped protect Brunell so much. His spirit and heart is just fantastic and he's an absolute beast, always the dirtiest jersey. Just got to love a guy with so much heart and willing to do anything for the team to win.

Re: Season Game Ball?

Portis, for helping to find, establish and most importantly execute our team's long lost offensive *identity*.

we've come so far, just consider where we were last year offensively. Portis plays just as hard on passing plays and its rare for a running back to make such an impact on so many aspects of an offense, including the locker room.

last year the Season Game Ball unquestionably went to Gregg Williams. this year it goes to Portis and the Offense.

Santana Moss. If we wouldn't have picked him up, I believe our record would resemble last season's. I believe Betts and Cartwright could have held their own a little better than having Thrash and Patten and God knows who as our receiving "threat".

Second half, though, goes to the O line..

I'm not sure if this has been said yet...but the season game ball should go to Coach Gibbs....none of this would've been possible without him.

you said it. we played our ENTIRE DIVISION IN A ROW FOR THE SEASON. that's DECEMBER ball. I totally agree, this December is a new part of Redskins history.

if there's ever another time we have to run the table to make the playoffs, they'll remember what Portis did in December 2005.

Re: Season Game Ball?

As Matty said--it's Portis. When we needed someone to step up and carry us, it was CP, with his crazy press conferences, his amazing play OFF THE BALL, his ability to take a hit and play hurt, and, when it counted most, his ability to move the chains. Everything else follows--the boots to Cooley and Sellars, the bombs to Santana, the Joe Gibbs ball control and balance.

Santana is a close runner-up--the perfect compliment to Portis in Gibbs offense, and without his play in Dallas, we're outside looking in.

Brunnell is comeback player of the year in the NFL--no doubt about it.

Re: Season Game Ball?

Portis, Moss, Brunell are all on the top of my list but I had to go with other and give a game ball to everyone. In all of our last 5 wins and for all our wins this season someone has made that play we needed on both sides of the ball. Heck even Jimoh has made some nice plays on D. It just seems that in every win a new player is making some plays that help us win.

Re: Season Game Ball?

This is a really tough one. Assuming Coach Gibbs is not a choice, mine comes down to Brunell or Moss.

I think these 2 had the most do with our success. Not to take anything away from guys like Portis, Cooley, Washington, but without Brunell and Moss I don't see us in the playoffs. The ironic thing is neither would have had such a good season without the other.

In the end I'll give my season game ball to Moss. The guy amazed me more each week. It's the best one season performance from a Redskins WR that I've ever seen.

So long $9 Million Dollar Baby!

I know this is a shocker, but i voted for Brunell... yeah I rip on him a lot, but he has played a hell of a season compared to last year. He really stepped it up.

Santanna, because he helped open up the offense so people couldn't just key in on Portis. Brunnell and Portis get much props also.

Re: Season Game Ball?

I would usually have to go with Portis. However, if we ever lost Santana Moss for even a 2 game stretch, our season would be done. The man is a phenom, he demands triple coverage and still lays it down week in and week out. I couldn't even imagine a scenario of going into a game with Thrash and Taylor "freakin" Jacobs as our receivers. It would be like last year all over again, with 8-9 men in the box.

My vote is Santana the Great...
