Re: Can't say it enough, let's give it up for Portis
I give Portis props. I have not been his biggest fan the past couple years, but the last 5 weeks he has really put it on the line and carried us.

My hat's off to Clinton and I have choked on some of the thoughts I have had of him from time to time. He has truly demonstarted he can bring it even against NFC east opponents. He's my MVP for the season.

Re: Can't say it enough, let's give it up for Portis
He has been everything we could have hoped for when we got him from Denver. I love how physical he is for being a pretty small guy and it shows on every play. He is great not only with the ball, but also without as he is a monster blocker. There has been a good amount times throughout the season when I thought he was hurt bad after a tackle (he always seems to get "almost" horse-collared) but he always bounced back and showed real toughness. The great players are clutch when you need them most and Portis is showing that when the game is on the line, you can put the ball in his hands with confidence. He is my favorite player and is coming up huge when we need him most.

Re: Can't say it enough, let's give it up for Portis
A few other things to take note of as well...
has Champ been as much of a catalyst to Denver as CP has been to the skins? I think not has Coles had as much of an impact on the Jets as Moss had on the Skins this year? I think not how effective have our draft picks been in contributing to the team effort... like Cooley, Taylor, etc? and finally who is responsible for assembling this team, making them a cohesive unit, and inspiring them to the playoffs? Say what you want about the skins this year, but I think more than anything Joe Gibbs is why this team is in the playoffs. With the exception of Norv Turner, who I think took 4 years to get his team into post-season, Gibbs is the first coach to take this team to the playoffs since Joe Gibbs. Am I right?

Portis also finished 4th in the NFL in rushing yards. Not bad for an overrated running back who was a product of the system.

Re: Can't say it enough, let's give it up for Portis
Portis has earned the respect from alot of people in the NFL this season. Especially Brian Mitchell. Mitchell gave him hell all year last year, I think he owes ole CP and apology. I do think Clinton is one of the most complete backs in the NFL, running with speed, illusiveness, power, has great vision and his willingness to take punishment is unmatched. He is one of the best RBs in the NFL at picking up blitzes. He doesn't just slow them down, which generally gets the job done, he knocks their asses down. Most of all, this man has the heart of a champion. He will be one of the single reasons if we advance in the playoffs.
Secondly, people stop comparing portis and champ in the trade. they play two totally different postions. I can see comparing Coles vs Moss, which we obviously go the better end of. But to compare Bailey and Portis is just not right for either team. Champ obvioulsy brought something Denver felt the didn't have and Portis gave us something we didn't have. By looking at it, I would say we are about even, Denver has a very stong D against the Pass, and Portis has carried the team on his legs. Cant really say one team got the better deal. |

if one can't see or appreciate that and everything he's done for this team this season (hint: it's much more than JUST record setting yards), than they're an overrated "Redskin fan"

Re: Can't say it enough, let's give it up for Portis
one MAJOR concern i have though, watching Portis get up so soon after all those tough yards or throwing his whole body into defensive ends protecting Brunell like he always does, really makes me wonder:
how long can Portis play this way?
