Re: Clinton Portis To Announce Retirement
Portis played in a Redskins era plagued with terrible passing offense, mediocre offensive line, and a HORRIBLE front office. At times, Portis was the Redskins offense. Personally I think his body broke down because of a combination of being in the tail end of the every-down RB era, being the only offensive weapon of this team, and for some reason the team didn't reduce his workload until it was too late.
I never thought his antics were that bad, but then again I am not one who thinks that we need to have 53 saints in the roster. Personally I think he is one of the most memorable Redskins, a hell of a RB, and probably one of the best blocking RBs ever.

I'll always, always remember his first carry as a Redskin, and he'll be a favorite of mine for a long time.

Long TD run vs. the Bucs I believe. I will also remember him blocking the sh*t out of Kiawanuka.

Re: Clinton Portis To Announce Retirement
I would have liked to see Portis surpass 10,000 career rushing yards at least. As for him breaking Riggins Redskin all time rushing record, it just wasn't meant to be.

Re: Clinton Portis To Announce Retirement
I was at the game for Clinton's first carry. The place went crazy.

Loved Clinton Portis! Don't think he's a hall of famer, but he was a solid back and a huge reason why the 'skins had any success at all during the 2000's.

Re: Clinton Portis To Announce Retirement
In his prime he was one of the better backs in the league. Ultimately though I think he falls short of the Hall.

Re: Clinton Portis To Announce Retirement
I agree! When Portis was healthy, he was pretty solid.

I miss Samuels and Jansen as much as CP. These bags we got know should be tried for crimes against humanity.

What a play. I was already jacked to have him in B&G and he does THAT on his first carry as a Skin? Perfect moment. Normally when a player retires or leaves a team, we stop wearing their jerseys because they're not a current player...at least that's what I've done. I'll still proudly wear my CP jersey.

Re: Clinton Portis To Announce Retirement
15 TDs in a season is more than "pretty solid".
Aside from rushing for more than 1200 yard 6 of his first 7 years and topping 1400 yards 4 times, he also racked up a lot of receiving yards and topped 1700 total yards many years. Check out his total yardage numbers in his healthier years: 2002 - 1872 2003 - 1905 2004 - 1550 2005 - 1732 2006 - 693 in 8 games 2007 - 1651 2008 - 1705 His production plus his blocking...I do think he's Hall-worthy eventually. Not even close to a first-ballot but definitely worth strong consideration in the future.

Re: Clinton Portis To Announce Retirement
CP finishes 27th on the all time list, pretty nice accomplishment. But going by some of the names ahead of him, I find it hard to see CP getting in to the Hall.
