Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
I dunno who was rubbing my nose in the whole, Doughty issue last week. But remember when I said Reed stinks as a starter and because God hates us, there's going to be an injury and Doughty will be a starter at least some of the games this season even though he's just an average backup?
Yeah. This. I'm not chicken littling or anything. I just feel really vulnerable on the deep balls when he's back there. Maybe he's gotten better. I wanna see the guy do well, he's a really great man outside of football, but I just don't feel comfortable with him as a starter.

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
Meriweather isn't a coverage guy either, we'll miss him in run support.

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
Wouldn't it be Williams back there at FS and Gomes at SS?

Williams is not better than Reed. Reed is good at run support. Let Gomes try to cover.

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
Williams is already the starting free safety anyways is he not? It's just a case of going with Gomes or Reed in the SS spot. It seems Gomes got a few snaps with the starters according to reports.

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
I think Gomes will surprise, he's a scrappy player. Honestly, I think he'll be better than Meriweather who is always hurt.

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
Gomes can't be any worse than Barnes. Remember Barnes played safety back in 2010. Actually Barnes wasn't too shabby at safety. Hm.

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
I'd give Keenan Robinson a lot of playing time, next to Fletcher to help with coverage on the tight ends and running backs. His scouting draft reports suggests that he can help in coverage, especially covering tight ends. The redskins need coverage help as much as they can get it. And he was productive in the preseason with 17 tackles. No one else in the front 7 has proven they can cover. And the secondary is in shambles right now with the corners needing help from the safeties, who are the defense's biggest concern and personnel weakness right now.
It's either this or rely on Orakpo, Kerrigan, and the defensive linemen to put constant pressure on Brees without blitzing. |

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
Perhaps they'll use Doughty primarily, but put in Gomes on passing downs?
And am I correct in thinking Bernstine is much too raw for anything but emergency use? |

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
Don't think it really matters since Meriweather is a horrible coverage safety.

Re: Brandon Meriweather Out 2-4 Weeks
Before, I was saying that we will upset the saints.
Then Merriweather got injured in preseason and I was cautious. Then Tanard Jackson got suspended and I was like 'ehh' its not looking good for the upset. Now with Merriweather hurt and down for sure from this game, and no tanard, I'm just hoping its not a blow out.
