Re: Browns Reportedly Fire GM George Kokinis

Apparently Mangini and Kokinis weren't getting along so well.

Re: Browns Reportedly Fire GM George Kokinis

I never thought I'd be envious of the Browns but they've already fired their GM, are seeking a big time 'Parcells type' and some disgruntled fans are getting an audience with the owner. Must be nice to have a semblance of a plan and an owner that's willing to admit he doesn't know everything about everything while demonstrating a firm grasp of nothing.

Id take him back in a heartbeat.
Marty recovering from an 0-5 start, and finishing 8-8 with Tony Banks as our starting QB was the best Redskins coaching job of the Snyder era, including anything we saw from Gibbs 2.0.

I'll still take the ST inspired playoff run. Gibbs did a great job at holding the team together.

When a team lets go of someone like this do they have to pay off the contract now or can they pay them as the contract says?

Typically the way the contracts are written they have to pay it as written (over the span of years) unless the coach is hired somewhere else in a similar capacity. For example, Mangini isn't still being paid by the Jets because he's the Browns coach. Shanahan is still being paid by the Broncos because he's not employed anywhere. In the case of Gruden, I'm not sure if he's still being paid by the Bucs since he's working but not for an NFL team. I'd think he still is.

In either case, it doesn't make good financial sense for a team to lump sum pay a coach when he's let go.

What are you saying? Tony Banks was the greatest quarterback in Redskins history.

Re: Browns Reportedly Fire GM George Kokinis

not only did marty come back to finish 8-8 he also fired vinny, and then after finishing the season 8-3 was promptly fired himself and then vinny was rehired, thats what really scares me and makes me think vinny may actually survive this season and be around for a long time, and thats a scray thought

Re: Browns Reportedly Fire GM George Kokinis

I'm calling it right now Brian Billick will be our next coach/evp and he's bringing in George Kokinis to be his Tom Heckert.

Seriously though, that would be the ideal role for Kokinis...to be a General Manager but much in the same way Heckert is for Andy Reid. Where Heckert does the due diligence and Reid makes the final call

I wouldn't mind that combo one bit.

Re: Browns Reportedly Fire GM George Kokinis

Just heard Peter King say that the Browns might bring in Ernie Arcosi or Ron Wolf to advise Mangini through the end of the season, and possibly fire Mangenius at the end.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ron Wolf come here full-time.
