Re: Around the NFL...Preseason Week 2 Style
Sorry to rant on that last post, lots of sarcasm in that post, I hope you guys know. But seriously, do people learn any common sense growing up these days? I am sorry, but if I sat down on a hot seat, the last thing that would go through my mind would be to sue someone. I would be cussing myself for being so stupid.

Re: Around the NFL...Preseason Week 2 Style
I don't know, seems kinda dumb to build a bench made out of black marble that's only going to bake and soak up heat in the Texas sun. Asking for trouble if you ask me.

And if she wins (very realistic given other frivolous lawsuits that were awarded damages in the past) all this is going to do is force signs to be put up warning people that benches and possibly other things will be hot. The money needed for such things will have to come from somewhere else, which means more money will be wasted on things that aren't needed. Most people have common sense, and if we have to protect the idiots that don't have common sense it will only hurt us in the future. |

You have to be drunk to keep sitting on a bench that was literally burning your ass off.

I can't imagine she quickly sat on a bench with clothes on and jumped right back up and sustained burns like this:

I am still with Matty in terms of why would you build a black/marble bench that is going to be soaking up the sun, for people to sit in. Now this was in California, but it still gets sunny and hot there. I know I brought it up b/c it was the Cowboys and it is funny to me, but I think it'd be stupid for any team to have this in their facilities.

Bold mine: "Jennelle Carrillo, of Cleburne, Texas, has sued the Cowboys and owner/general manager Jerry Jones after she suffered severe burns to her backside while allegedly sitting on a bench outside Cowboys Stadium before a team scrimmage in August 2010."
I call shenanigans on the whole lawsuit. |

Re: Around the NFL...Preseason Week 2 Style
I was wondering if marble was a good conductor of heat because it is always cold when I have touched it. Being the marble in question is black plus this info I presume it can get pretty hot.
Marble is metamorphosed limestone, composed of fairly pure calcite (a crystalline form of calcium carbonate, CaCO3). Yes, marble as compared to some common materials used for floor lining, is a better conductor of heat, hence appears to be cooler. This is so because its Specific Heat is 2.08 to 2.94, whereas the Specific Heat of other flooring items is lower than this ( Wood 0.12 to 0.17, Wool, felt 0.07, common granite 1.7 to 1.9). The higher the Specific Heat of a material, the faster it will transfer the heat.

Re: Around the NFL...Preseason Week 2 Style
I think if a bench is hot enough to give you third degree burns, you should be able to tell when you sit down on it that it's too hot. If I sit down on a bench that's extremely hot, I'm smart enough to know to get right back up immediately rather than sit there and burn my ass. With all that said, I'm no doctor, so if it can be proven she sat on the bench for a very minimal amount of time and got 3rd degree burns from it then by all means feel free to prove me wrong. Personally this just sounds like the hot coffee incident all over again.

Re: Around the NFL...Preseason Week 2 Style
Nice design there Jerrah, black marble bench directly in the sun? Are these the same people that built the practice dome which was not in build code compliance? Dallas Cowboys' practice facility collapses from storm - ESPN, AP Exclusive: Firm knew Cowboys facility may fall - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
Sorry, no pass for Jerrah and the Cowboys, she should sue and win. If the facility provides a bench to sit, it endorses the fact it is safe to sit. pathetic and half ass by the Cowboys organization
