2. Interior Line...I think we coulda upgraded here in the offseason, but we went young which is fine, but Kory L injury is a huge issue, Chester is average, Monty is average. Wouldnt it be nice if someone could step up and take one of their spots?

3. WRs. Gonna be fun to see how these guys slot 1-5 or possibly 6. If we keep 6, then WR is primed for an UDFA to take a spot. I expect AA, Austin, and Aldrick Robinson to be fighting for their lives. Banks is already gone imo.
4. QB - I think this will be a battle to watch and as excited as I am for RG 3 come game 1 in the regular. I am just as excited to see who Cousins is in the preseason ( remember we are just talking about preseason football but at least we get that for a few weeks before the fun starts ).

Something tells me that Grossman will outshine Cousins. If Cousins somehow plays better in preseason than Grossman, I still wouldn't be surprised if Cousins is still third string by the first game of the season.

That's fine and dandy. You want Grossman to push Cousins (and Griffin). Grossman understands his role regardless where he falls on the depth chart.

When Reed is being mentioned as the best safety on the roster, you know you have by far the worst safety play in the league.

I think Merriweather, Jackson and Williams are obvious very low risk stop gaps. Id like to see Gomes to take that next step.

With Chase being put on the PUP list, that is really big news. A) hes made the team...to an extent. B) the injury is still lingering which sux and he will be behind unfortunately C) opens up another opportunity for someone to make the team at CB, maybe Barnes makes the team? D) He's shown enough for the FO to say take it easy and lets get him 100%.

So other than Chase M who else is on the PUP list? Great that CM is going to get a chance but I don't like the fact that he is ready to go now.

Re: 2012 Training Camp Competitions Open Discussion

Assuming Cousins develops well, i wouldnt be surprised if we have a situation where Grossman is the backup if RGIII goes down during a game and/or if he is only going to be out for a couple weeks. However, if RGIII were lost for the season, i think we'd put Cousins in to see what he could do. We've seen what Rex can do already and its turn over the ball atleast twice per game without scoring as many compsentating TDs. If Cousins is worse than Rex, even as a rookie, then i'll start to question why we used a 4th rounder on him.

Thanks and I agree that S is a bigger weakness then corner.

I think most fans still judge/base their opinion of Reed from back when he took over at FS after ST21 rip and played poorly.
But, Reed has actually become decent/starting caliber SS.
The advanced metrics bear this out.(football outsiders/profootball focus)
You say Reed's past his prime (and last year was a down year for him) but even last Doughty was still better then Meriweather/Jackson/M.Williams.

I'm ready for a youth movement at Safety.
At least the mistakes youth makes are teachable moments.
A mistake from a veteran is just a reminder that they're not that good.
I know its a longshot but a defensive backfield of Doughty + Gomes or Doughty + Barnes or Doughty + Bernstein would be alright with me.

Aging, struggling, freelancing, headcase, poor tackling safeties scare me.

Tristan Davis was the other one on the PUP.

Please tell me why the Shanny's go out and get least talented players to start over Reed? Reed is a backup at best. Another instance of stats lying to ya.

I think Reed is the classic example of fan perception not lining up with reality.

Most of my points have already been addressed! Great B&G minds think alike!

If R. Grossman and R. Doughty are cut, then with addition by subtraction, all will be better. Neither are worthy of a roster spot.

I agree. If the coaches felt Reed didn't bring anything to the table, they wouldn't be wasting a roster spot on him.

Oh, I disagree. Doughty is very capable as a backup.

But he should be a backup only. Having him start would speak negative volumes about our talent/skill level at safety.

Re: 2012 Training Camp Competitions Open Discussion

Undrafted rookie CB Chase Minnifield (knee) will reportedly open training camp on the active/PUP list.

Although Minnifield underwent microfracture surgery over the winter, this still comes as a bit of surprise in that the former Virginia star shined while participating fully in June minicamp. The Redskins are building in roster flexibility with the option to leave Minnifield on reserve/PUP for the first six games. RB Tristan Davis (undisclosed) is also expected to open camp on the PUP list.
