They're going to need his effort, because gone are the days when teams can rely soley on one back to carry the load through a sixteen game season.
I can tell you. The media sees Portis go down, Betts steps in and has a great season. The Skins are a team that's known as being a mover and a shaker, so they put two and two together and there's the stupid Portis is being traded rumor.

i would really hate it to see randy moss as a redskin,i do'nt care if they could get him for a sixth round pick, his bullshit and work ethic would do nothing but hurt the redskins in the end!that goes for his ass buddy jerry porter too!

I care about losing with young inexpensive talent because you can alway inprove by drafting well and making moves. With old expensive talent you have and no draft picks like we do now, you dont have as much flexability to fix your team to compete. With old expensive you have to restructure contracts all the time or cut players. We will never win that way. The proof is our lousy records since 99. Boy its amazing how people forget Portis fumbling all the time his first season here. Opening the second half against the browns a couple time against the giants etc. Every back fumbles. Betts did a hell of a job.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

Can someone explain to me how one determines that Danny Boy Snyder is 100X better than Jeffrie Lurie? Frankly, neither of them is any kind of role model that I'd want for either of my kids. But tell me why Snyder is so much superior.

It can't be on the basis of "on-field results". Snyder took over a team that was a playoff team and basically led it into "high draft pick terrirtory". Lurie had a team in 1998/99 that had the worst record in the league. The only reason they got to take Donovan McNabb with the #2 overall pick is that Cleveland came into the league and was granted the #1 overall pick - which they used to take Tim "Ouch" Couch. From that time until now, the Eagles have 5 NFC East titles and the Redskins have - - how many would that be?

Lurie is no genius, but why is Snyder so much better?

Anyone who thinks that Snyder has been better for the Skins than Lurie has been for Philly is an idiot. The Eagles have had a plan from Day 1 when Lurie brought in Reid. They build through the draft, leave enough cap space to re-sign their core guys in-season, thus making even those long-term deals extremely cap friendly. In short, they are a very stable organization, with far less turnover than the Skins. I remember Gibbs calling both Smoot and Pierce two of his core guys during the '04 season, and how did that end up? The Philly philosophy would have left ample cap space to sign both at a discount before allowing them to sniff free agency. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dockery get a sizable offer and depart once the FA market opens.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

Sport you have it right. Snyder is a joke as owner. He great at spending money that true but as far as running a successful team little danny is a joke. Little Danny is a great businessman but as a owner he killing my team with his horrible ownership. You would think Little Danny would look at how the other championships teams are winning and how their run and chose to do the same. But no he has his great way of overpaying other teams junk and letting his own players leave, and worst of all trading away picks after picks away like they dont mean a thing. Thats why i fear the skins future is bleak unless Little Danny changes course and gets a real Gm and not have himself or Gibbs or the chump Vinny in charge.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

Clinton Portis is the best football player we have. He was injured the entire time he played last season. He will be back up over 1500 this season.

And, I would point out that Jeffrey Lurie has exactly the same number of Super Bowl wins as Snyder. Almost doesn't count. People will remember their teams scornfully as they do the Vikings of 70s or the Bills of the 90s.

Betts showed he is more of a Gibbs style runner anyway... I would be very comfortable with him as our number 1.... I just worry about the QB.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

Portis is also sooo damn good without the football- a devastating blocker. I look back at that Tampa game in 2005 when he put Shelton Quarles to friggin' sleep. Hahaha! Gibbs LOVES Portis and plus he's already restructured his contract for us. No way in holy hell Portis is going anywhere. Also, this front office has showed us so far that the theme for this offseason is stability and restraint. Trading a 25 year old franchise back capable of breaking off a TD every time he touches the ball would ridiculous.

These guys all carried the load and I probably forgot a couple. It doesn't happen as much but it can be done.

I know that Portis has plenty left in the tank. The ridiculous rumors were started by people who can't see the big picture. The same people that annoited the Giants then Cowboys then Chargers and now the Patriots.

The same type that says Taylor is the greatest player to ever suit up after the Carolina game and then say that he is "mediocre" because he had to pick up the slack for an injured defense that lacked talent on every level.
I agree with the thoughts here, but E James had a terrible time in AZ :/. I'd add S jackson T barber and B Westbrook to the list though.
