Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
If Briles is another Head Coach>GM no thanks, we have had that since Snyder took over, where does that lead?

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)
My list in no particular order except for Lovie Smith at the top of my want list.
AJ Smith named GM or hire a consultant to assist in hiring a HC/GM: HC: Josh McDaniels (Pats) Darrell Bevell (Seattle Seahawks) Pete Carmichael, Jr. (New Orleans Saints) Tom Clements (Green Bay Packers) Jay Gruden (Cincinnati Bengals) Greg Roman (San Francisco 49ers) Mike Zimmer (Bengals)" Bill O’Brien (Penn State) Todd Bowles(Zona) OC/DC maybe HC: Either of the Ryan IF paired with a proven OC DC/OC only: Scott Linehan Rick Dennison (Houston Texans) Dick LeBeau Eric Mangini Wade Phillips Gary Kubiac Hugh Jackson (Bengals) Key hires: OC or QB coach that comes from a proven passing scheme and has either (a) developed a young QB before ( has played QB before or has called plays before (even though they will most likely NOT be the primary playcaller here) Staff: QB Coach Ken Dorsey (Panthers) OC/QB coach Phillip Montgomery (Baylor) QB Coach-Jake Spavital (Texas A&M) Kurt Roper OC from Duke James Coley OC from Miami OC/QB coach Scott Frost (Oregon State) Zac Taylor (Dolphins) |

I like that Gruden is a small town guy, maybe it's perfect in that he's NOT looking for the limelight. Keep his head down and focus on the team. Why is Lovie not happening? It irks me because I see Lovie as the perfect fit assuming we have a great OC, which you need anyway. His players always give 100% on the field and he also has that no nonsense factor. Keeps his head down and focuses on the team. Doesn't conjure up bullshit for the media. In many ways he's the opposite of Shanahan. Lovie is a high character guy IMO and will win a Lombardi one day. Just a great fit for DC and RG IMO. I'm pissed there's no interest and wanna know who's to blame?

Baylor does do some zone running, but the blocking would be more man-based than it has been since 2007. I think for the game he plays where he tries to reduce the number of players in the box, man blocking works better for that kind of offense. And I'm a zone blocking proponent. No defense in the NFL is prepared to defend the offense Briles runs. You would need to start drafting cover safeties in bulk, and that takes years to adjust to. Plus, once teams start to get cover first safeties, Briles would adjust to that.

Houston doesn't have a QB, and Lovie should know the importance of that simple fact given he'd have a ring, maye two, if he had a QB instead of Rex in Chicago. We've got the QB, two RBs featuring different but both impressive skill sets, TEs, a breakout WR and franchise LT. We need a few olineman and another legit wr the offense is set. I think Lovie would make the current defensive personnel top ten. Add a standout safety and depth at corner and LB and we're set.

Detroit is in all sorts of contract trouble. I think that's the worst job. Except Oakland.
Tennessee and Washington are about in the same spot. I'd rank the eight jobs likely to be open from worst to best: -Oakland -Detroit -Washington -Tennessee -Houston -New York Jets -Minnesota -Tampa Bay -New York Giants

It won't be opened if Coughlin wants to come back.
One of these years, Belichick is going to step down. And in true Pats fashion, you won't hear any rumblings until it's done.
