Redskins Post-Game - washingtonpost.com

Cindy, who helps out JLC, fielded questions on the WP's website around 2:30 today. Cindy seems to suggest that the coma was medically induced. If true, that's very good news.

Thanks for the link. Why are people on that site asking questions about Sundays game? WHO CARES? I don't give a shit about the rest of the season right now, I just want to here that ST is going to be ok.

McLean, Va.: Will your opinion of Taylor change if this does not turn out to be a random incident (e.g. home invasion)?

Michael Wilbon: No...People's opinions are shaped by the way they've grown up, the way they see the world, what they know about the world the person in question grew up in, etc. Sean Taylor isn't the only guy I know who fits his general profile. I've known guys like Taylor all my life, grew up with some. They still have shades of gray and shouldn't be painted in black and white...I know how I feel about Taylor, and this latest news isn't surprising in the least, not to me. Whether this incident is or isn't random, Taylor grew up in a violent world, embraced it, claimed it, loved to run in it and refused to divorce himself from it. He ain't the first and won't be the last. We have no idea what happened, or if what we know now will be revised later. It's sad, yes, but hardly surprising.
Quote:
Columbia, Md.: What makes you think that Taylor was still embracing his old ways? Every thing we have heard from the Redskins and Portis is that this is a new Sean. Apparently the birth of his child really helped to straighten him out. Is this contrary to what you know?

Michael Wilbon: Sorry, but I'n not in the habit of having comapanies with their own public relations agenda tell me about black men and what they feel or don't feel. Pardon me if I'm not that easy.
There's more.

The Chat House - washingtonpost.com.

What he's done in my opinion is tell everyone White, Black, Hispanic (whatever) who has tried to make a change in their life and better themselves that they shouldn't bother. You are what you always were.

At what point does common sense override your enormous ego, Wilbon? Just shut up. Now is not the time.

Watching SportsCenter- Mort just reported that there wasn't much optimism amongst the Redskin folks he spoke with, and that people are just holding out hope that his youth and athleticism save him in this case. Ugh.

I concur, I don't think I have ever been this sad over someones possible passing outside of my family.

In a way I almost feel like this HAS happened to someone in my family. Maybe it's just b/c I'm emotional right now. But I grew up in DC. Some of my earliest memories are of my Dad taking me to Skins games at RFK during Gibbs 1.0. I still remember the 3 SuperBowl parties my family threw for our championships.

Redskins football is and always will be something that brings my family and friends together on Sundays. I love this team with all my heart, I keep up with them every single day of the year, and as I've grown up I feel like I'm a part of them and they're a part of me, as cheesy as that may sound. And Taylor is one of my 2 or 3 favorite players. I still remember cheering and running laps around my living room when we drafted him over Kellen Winslow. I wear his jersey every Sunday. I'm devastated.

I hope so.

Believe Washington. Pray for that man to recover and brought back to full health.

Now he's reported as unconscious and non-responsive.

Come on Sean, you can recover.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

that's a pretty shitty thing to say about somebody fighting for his life now.wilbon can't be that stupid or jealous is he?i do'nt give a shit about football anymore this season after this,
it seems to have put everything but in it's proper place for me.things are not looking good for sean now.it does seem that he was putting his life together after a few years of being rowdy off the field so i'm glad that happened.i'm praying for the taylor family.i know how it is to be in this position, just 8 weeks ago my family went through this with my sister in law.
everybody just needs to pray for sean and his family in this awful time.

I hope it is a random robbery, and not some other event. For his sake.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

Every article I read has to list, at length, every negative event that's happened in his life. The man was at home with his fiancee and young child when someone broke in and shot him. He wasn't at a strip club at 3 am, he wasn't out on the streets. This could have happened to anyone posting on this site.
