Yea Snyder should only hire one man, whether it is a new GM that is going to hire a coach or a new coach that controls everything.

I think suggestions can be made, I don't want another Zorn or Spurrier situation. Some veteran staff members will help O'Brien transition into the role.

At the 35 minute mark JLC talks about Briles and the possibilities for him as the coach.. I'm still not sold on him being the best decision based on the issues it may cause but if he stacks his staff with NFL vets and has a strong DC and front office guy, I could get behind it.

I'm mildly concerned about if/how his offense will translate but maybe GTripp or someone can speak to that..

I don't think it would look that similar to what Baylor's offense looks like right now. I think he'd put more emphasis on protecting the QB and emphasize the TE more. But the unique things that Briles brings are that he lines up his receivers really wide and tries to get safeties trying to play the football over their shoulder...that will work wonders in the NFL.

Baylor does do some zone running, but the blocking would be more man-based than it has been since 2007. I think for the game he plays where he tries to reduce the number of players in the box, man blocking works better for that kind of offense. And I'm a zone blocking proponent.

No defense in the NFL is prepared to defend the offense Briles runs. You would need to start drafting cover safeties in bulk, and that takes years to adjust to. Plus, once teams start to get cover first safeties, Briles would adjust to that.

I think the situation of an "offensive guru" rookie coach matched with a top notch, nfl experienced DC has been mentioned before by mulitple posters here. I think its a possibility likely to be explored by Bruce and other in the FO. I could def see something like this happening, I dont know if Briles is that offensive guru though...

I would prefer Briles (if he's hired) as an OC, with a defensive guru and someone familiar with the Redskins as HC, like G Williams. I think Briles could easily be overwhelmed, and besides what's he done to deserve an HC opportunity coming from college?

I agree with you. Too many people want to get rid of Shanahan and replace him with an unproven guy. You cant bring in someone like Briles unless you also have an extremely strong GM in place. We're talking so much about who the next HC will be, but obviously, the GM needs to in place first. Chris Russell thinks Allen will be promoted to Team President, and that he and Snyder will hire a GM, and theyll all pick a head coach.

Some say Snyder shouldnt be involved in the decision, but he obviously needs to be if its a college coach. Most of them have contracts which would have to be bought out. Right now, its likely Snyders going to have to buy out over 10MM in contracts from the current coaching staff... asking him to buy out another 10MM for college coaches might be a bit much.

The days of retreads and college coaches with no NFL experience are over. Shaw and O'Brien are the exception here with proven track records. This team someone like those 2 or some hungry assistant like Bevell, Bowles, Gruden, Whisenhunt.

Baylor didn't even have uniforms when Briles got there. He's made them a threat in the BCS for a few years now.

Also, add in the fact that Briles has done it with less than HALF the recruiting results of the other big schools in the country.

So he's taking players who are average standard and making a competitive football team and one of the top ones in the nation.

Allowing the diva quarterback to pick his old college coach is the definition of letting the inmates run the asylum.

Who said he's picking him? You have a link?

Just because it was his college coach? You read in to the blurred lines to much. Briles deserves his shot on his performance alone.

So, I guess any player who's played football for a college coach isn't allowed to be united with a college coach because it's his say? You really think Snyder is going to allow RG3 who is on the bench right now make a 40 million dollar decision for him?

Let's be real.

Briles comes in.. We win football games. You won't hear anything about how RG3 picked his coach. Just saying.

I still can't believe that people believe all the leaks that Shanahan has put out there on RG3 and Snyder to protect himself. lol

RG3 a Diva? You try doing a interview process every Weds, and camera's following you around 24/7. I'm sure some of your mistakes will be BLOWN out of the water.

Rg2 has been lobbying for the guy.... You think he's done that without rg3s blessing? Are you that naive? Either way, it doesn't matter - Chris's Russell said that based in his sources, Snyder and Allen have no interest in Briles. Thank goodness for that.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach (Volume 2)

My list in no particular order except for Lovie Smith at the top of my want list.
AJ Smith named GM or hire a consultant to assist in hiring a HC/GM:

HC:
Josh McDaniels (Pats)
Darrell Bevell (Seattle Seahawks)
Pete Carmichael, Jr. (New Orleans Saints)
Tom Clements (Green Bay Packers)
Jay Gruden (Cincinnati Bengals)
Greg Roman (San Francisco 49ers)
Mike Zimmer (Bengals)"
Bill O’Brien (Penn State)
Todd Bowles(Zona)

OC/DC maybe HC:
Either of the Ryan IF paired with a proven OC

DC/OC only:
Scott Linehan
Rick Dennison (Houston Texans)
Dick LeBeau
Eric Mangini
Wade Phillips
Gary Kubiac
Hugh Jackson (Bengals)

Key hires: OC or QB coach that comes from a proven passing scheme and has either (a) developed a young QB before ( has played QB before or has called plays before (even though they will most likely NOT be the primary playcaller here)
Staff:
QB Coach Ken Dorsey (Panthers)
OC/QB coach Phillip Montgomery (Baylor)
QB Coach-Jake Spavital (Texas A&M)
Kurt Roper OC from Duke
James Coley OC from Miami
OC/QB coach Scott Frost (Oregon State)
Zac Taylor (Dolphins)
