4. he would not play if he thought he could get injured permanently
5. this is not a money motivated move for him

I can't believe I am saying this, but I want the old Danny boy running the show on this negotiation.
So was Manning the month before his draft.
Manning can get us two winning seasons?
BFD
Griffin could get us ten.
Manning has won the same amount of games for the Redskins as Griffin has.

I think he will go down to two choices, miami (if they can meet his financial demands) or kansas city chiefs.

Imagine Manning to Andre Johnson of the Texans and their running game and TE's. How could PManning not be thinking about that? I would.
I like the 49ers D better though, and gore aint bad.

I don't think the 49ers or texans are going to pursue him, but those would be the best fits on his end as far as talent and whatnot.

This wouldn’t be Donovan McNabb 2, a horror-flick sequel; people close to Shanahan say he regards Manning as the greatest quarterback of all time, and he and his son – offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan – would give this veteran quarterback a lot more power and leeway than they did McNabb. The Redskins would need to go out and get Manning some weapons, perhaps making a run at familiar targets like Reggie Wayne and/or Pierre Garcon in the process. The team’s overall talent level isn’t overly impressive, but a healthy Manning could change the vibe in a hurry. The weather isn’t horrible, and the move would be incredibly sexy: Among other things, he’d have the chance to battle younger brother Eli and the defending Super Bowl champion Giants twice during the 2012 season. With the Shanahans’ play-calling chutzpah and acumen and Manning’s immense knowledge, this could be a legendary combination.

Some weapons like Austin Collie, Brandon Stokely, Joseph Addai, Dallas Clark, Pierre Garcon, etc??? Yeah, Manning would have been nothing without those future Hall of Famers.

Great QBs make their own weapons, not the other way around.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

Manning today is only 35, on March 24th I believe, he will be 36. You could be looking at 5 solid years of play for PM. I want the guy in the B&G for all of those possible years.

There are many on this site that are so sold on RGIII that I don't believe they realize that if he does not work out, that move will have set this franchise back another 5 years.

Give me the QB who comes with less risk and the upside is a winning team again. We have not had a winning season since Gibbs last year in 07. I want to root for a winner again.

THAT is the other side of the coin. As you point out, there are no sure things. High risk....high reward?

It is possible. There are plenty of reasons to believe that RGIII is perfect for us, but we have to give away so much for this kid. I just don't think we are in a position to give away two firsts and still build this team. AND if he is a bust well...... I guess there won't be much joy in ol DC any time soon.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

We know the doctor gave Manning clearance to play. However, we don't know about his arm strength. Assuming his arm strength is okay, we don't have the offensive line to protect him or a great group of receivers. I also don't have a good feeling that Peyton would want to come to DC with all the losing that's gone on here for years. Maybe Shanahan would make a difference - Manning might like to play for him. It's so tempting to go out and get Peyton Manning but there seems to be an awful lot of obstacles.....including the fact that so many other teams are in competition with us.

There's a thread here somewhere about how he was recorded at Duke University throwing 35+ yard passes since his surgery. I didn't read the thread too much or check out the video so I don't know how legitimate it was.
