Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

he knew how much his baby meant to him... how much he's matured...

He seems very emotional as we all are

I too think he has matured. He definitely doesn't seem like the somewhat brash ST of the past. He seems quieter, keeps a level head on his shoulders, works hard and stays out of trouble. Well deserving of praise for the strides he has made not only as a football player but as a man as well.

Which is why what Michael Wilbon said makes no sense to me. I hate how Wilbon thinks he's talking for "Black men" Wilbon doesn't know jack and I wish he'd stop lumping ST into the "Bad, angry Black men" category and just shut his mouth and stick to writing for the Post.

You are spot on. The 'angry black man' stereo-type is exactly what we are seeing in the reporting of this incident and Wilbon is no different than any of the other media outlets. Even if this incident is somehow tied to previous events such as the ATV incident (which obviously we don't know), that does not change the fact that Sean has matured greatly, has become a student of the game, and was living life for his family. Wilbon is just wrong and he should admit as much publicly, though I know he never will.

Rave, you hit. I usually gobble up Wilbon's commentary hook, line, and sinker. Not this time...and not just because it's a Redskin involved. My favorite Redskin, mind you.

My critisim of the media, and specifically Wilbon, is that Taylor is being characterized as a young angry black man. While I'm not defending any of Taylor's past actions, (and this really isn't the forum to be discusing it, but since you struck a nerve) it's so convenient for the media to cast him in a negative light. Whatever happened to the human component of reporting? Since when does "freedom of speech" give us license to kick someone when they're down and futher dehumanize them?

As far as I'm concerned, the bigger and unfortunate tragady here, is not the victim in this incident, Sean Taylor, but how we as civilized human beings can be so hypocritical and darn right judgemental.

I wonder which one does Mike Wilbon think is worse - the murder of an individual or the murder of one's character?

Gibbs said he will not be going down to Miami for the time being. ST told the team how his house was broken into last week but Gibbs doesn't know why ST traveled back to Miami.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

Asked how to prepare the team after this Gibbs said he doesnt know he has never been through anything like this.

Talks about Seans maturation while with the skins.

Talking about why Sean stayed at home, and didn't travel with the team.

Talks about how Sean missed a meetin last week because of the break in last week.

He sounds like hes about to cry, its upsetting.

Doesnt know anything bout his medical condition.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

I feel so horrible today. Like when Reggie Lewis died (I still have his rookie card in my wallet to this day). I feel like this is worst becuse it dragged out but, there is (will be) a chance of a happy ending.

ST was my fav, after Lavar left. I use to think I felt like shit after a Redskin lost this is a whole new level of shitty. =(

Nice Article about Sean in the Miami Herald, writer interviewed former teammate and friend Buck Ortega

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

Profootballtalk.com/rumormill is "reporting" the following:

CONFLICTING INFORMATION ON TAYLOR by Michael David Smith

Redskins safety Sean Taylor is in critical condition in a Miami hospital, and there is conflicting information about his prognosis.

Amy Shipley of the Washington Post said on ESPNews this afternoon that "Several family members have told us he's doing alright."

However, Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald reports that family and friends of Taylor told him that the gunshot wound to his femoral artery caused so much blood loss that it has affected his brain, and Taylor is expected to have "a long road back to recovery."

Although at this point everyone is more concerned about Taylor's life than his football career, Navarro reports that sources told him Taylor's playing career is likely over.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that was back in Miami this weekend because he wanted to check in on his home, which was robbed last week, and because he wanted to get a second opinion on his knee from Dr. John Uribe. It is not known whether there is any connection between the incident at his home last week and the shooting early this morning.

Taylor is engaged to be married to his longtime girlfriend. He has a 1-year-old son.

I don't know ST from Adam, I'm not going to act like I do, I'm also white as a snowflake and I cannot even begin to act as though I am "down with the struggle" like Wilbon seems to think he is. All I can do is go by what I've seen in the papers, and ST doesn't strike me as a "Pacman Jones" type of person or some type of black crusader born and raised in the hood. He seems like if anything he was a little naive and immature to start out, and made a few bad choices...the justice system has taken it's course, ST has paid his penalties and stayed clean since...IMO Wilbon needs to come down off his sanctimonious high horse and STFU...

EXACTLY. From what I understand, Wilbon grew up pretty well off in suburban Chicago, played high school tennis, and went to ritzy, private Northwestern University. But he's so quick to play the race card, and as you say, act like he's "down with the struggle." He's also a member at luxurious Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD. But he's down, right? Sanctimonious high horse is exactly right.

Sean was raised by a police chief, never got in any trouble at the U. He made a few bad choices right after coming into the league, and hasn't had a single off-field transgression since. But he "embraced" thug life, right Wilbon? What an asshole.

Wilbon is a sanctimonious jerk and many are finally starting to see this. Part of his problem with ST may be ST's reluctance to be open to the press.
