Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Problem is you really can't have QBs "compete" for the job anymore with such limited (possibly soon to be even more limited) practice time. Splitting reps in practice ends up hurting both guys as you're not giving them enough snaps to really develop. And then a natural divide develops in the locker room depending on who guys get behind and support. And then the constant questioning Rivera and the players would deal with all offseason. I really don't think RR wants to go down that road.

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Yup, for below market value because the trade is forced. Thus setting your team back even further.

Not if Tua is the clear better QB

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Tua is not coming to this team. If Haskins really busts this season, with all the improvements to the OL, TE, WR then we’ll draft for a QB with our first draft pick in 2021.

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
I wonder how much this regime likes the front 7 enough to make a deal?

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
I'd like the front 7 better with CY. We don't have an out and out LE pass rusher as it stands, and he would give us that plus the increased capability to swap personnel all across the DL for situational need.
And I suspect we've only kept RK so far in case we don't/can't draft CY. He could be waive/trade bait post draft if we do, or CY leverages us to renegotiate his contract. If we draft QB or trade down then it puts RK in a good position with his current contract, else we weaken the front 7 if we let him go. |

Re: Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Yeah but can he pass accurately from the bench when he’s in a hip and ankle cast?

Chase Young or Three First Round Picks?
Quote:
When you spend a first round pick in a QB, then you have to give him a reasonable time to see if he can be your future franchise QB. Seven games is not enough time, especially when he had outstanding numbers in his last 2 games. If he plays the whole 2020 season, then he will have been evaluated for 23 games, which is a reasonable sampling. Then you make your decision based on the best available information. If we pass up on Chase Young, who many predict could be an outstanding defensive talent, then passing him would be a waste of a very high draft pick. If we draft Tua and then Dwayne Haskins goes onto another team and becomes THEIR franchise QB, then we wasted that draft pick. The Cardinals thought Rosen was going to be a bust, based on a mediocre rookie season, and so drafted a QB in their first round the next year. Haskins had an average 2019 rookie season, based on his total numbers (7 TD, 7 INT). However, these numbers were warped by his extremely poor first game (3 INT). Gruden threw him into that game without ever having ever practiced with the first squad, ever. Haskins was just not ready. After that bad first game he steadily improved, and finished with two OUTSTANDING games. Rosen never had a SINGLE good or very good or excellent game in his rookie season. Much less finishing with two outstanding games. BL, no matter how much people like Tua, you can’t dump a rookie QB when they finish so strongly. Now Haskins may bust out in 2020 and then we’ll have to draft a QB with our first pick in 2021. It isn’t about Chase Young or Tua in the draft. Haskins finished very strong in 2019 and that bought him a year to be evaluated in 2020. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Makes tons of sense. Here's hoping DH crushes it this year. And that CY does as well, freeing up Sweat to go nuts too. The tandem of these two, with our strengths in the middle, is intoxicating. This lower key approach to free agency just could be the foundation for fun returning to Skins Nation. Or .. I guess ... it could be more of the same. Which we're used to. But I think it's different this time around. |
