Re: Redskins and Titans talking trade again on Albert Haynesworth

Speaking of emergencies, Randel El is taking QB snaps in practice this week since they're down to just Dixon and Batch.

Unfortunately, there are 3 other starting LB's on our team....none of which can both pass rush AND cover....even Orakpo is still learning that.

Our line is questionable with or without Haynesworth in a 3-4.
In a 4-3 we'd probably have Orakpo and Carter on the end and Haynesworth happy at DT with some other fat guy at the other....that is 3 of 4 very high quality guys playing natural positions on the line vs....1 of 3....Carriker....and we don't even know if he is any better than average.

This 3-4 shift is by far the riskiest move of the offseason, and it has shown 1 thing...complete inablility to stop the run.

For all you that think we are going to the playoffs...keep a close eye on the decline of our abilty to stop the run due to the scheme shift...watch it closely.

I think you make some good points here--I too am worried that this year's D does not have the personnel to run the 3-4. And, yes, the run D will suffer because of it. I think we'll be addressing this in the next off season in a big way--these things take time.

But I do hope there will be some upside, even this year. For one, we should be better against the pass, both in pass D and, much more importantly, pressure. Also, and here is the big hope, we'll get more TOs. If that happens, it covers up a multitude of weaknesses. So far in the pre-season, we've seen a bit of that. Let's hope it translates into the regular season.

In any event, it's going to take some time on both sides of the ball to get Shanny's system up and running. We need that thing that no skins fan (myself included) seems to have: patience.

AH is going to go nuts against Dallas and if I was Homo or one of their RB I not want to play against a pissed off AH. This will be his first real chance to let off some steam and is he can keep from getting winded he should have a great game.

Hopefully they won't be running any QB scrambles if that's the case.

Much to Shanahan's delight, the Redskins produced eight turnovers in the first three preseason games, generally considered the most important games for evaluating players and choosing the opening 53-man roster.

"We had eight in [the first] three games," Shanahan said. "If you did that for the season it'd be 42, 421/2. I think Green Bay led the NFL last year with 40, so you feel pretty good."

Hall became the first Redskins player with two interceptions in the preseason since safety Sean Taylor had three before the 2004 season.

"And the thing is we haven't run any of Has's defenses," Hall said. "We've just been out there playing vanilla, not trying to show nothing. Just wait 'til we start the season and start running all this stuff we've been working on from the start. It'll be on then. It's scary."
The turnovers numbers are a good point, but it has to be tempered with the fact that it is typical there are more turnovers in preseason because you have a ton of backups and wannabe's playing trying like hell to make the roster and they take more chances and are more reckless/careless with the ball.

I see you highlighted the part about our defense playing vanilla schemes in preseason. Yeah, that is what I was referring too.

Lorenzo Alexander learning yet another position

Is there any limit to Lorenzo Alexander's versatility?

It seems the Redskins are determined to find out after recently requesting that the outside linebacker learn to play the inside backer positions just in case he is needed in an emergency situation.

Of course, Alexander complied. He is studying the playbook to learn the assignments of starting inside linebackers London Fletcher and Rocky McIntosh, and backup H.B. Blades.

"Everything starts out as an emergency-type thing," Alexander said. "I'm learning the middle linebacker, and hopefully I'll be able to fill in for guys just in case, God forbid, if Rocky or London or H.B. went down with an injury. If they needed somebody to play there in the game, I'd be able to step in and just fill another role on the team."

If you're scoring at home, Alexander has lined up at outside linebacker, defensive tackle, defensive end, guard, tight end and fullback. He also fills roles on special teams.

He has made a smooth transition to outside linebacker from his former primary position along the defensive line. Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett raves about Alexander, who will back up Andre Carter, a converted defensive end, against the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener Sunday night. Alexander is expected to play primarily on third downs.

With this being Dallas Week and Alexander only starting to learn the inside positions, "I'm not going to get [practice] reps at it at all," he said. "I mean, London, Rocky ... they're going to give the reps to guys who are preparing to play. They're not going to prepare for an emergency.

"I try to take my reps when we do practice-squad things. I don't know it quite all the way but I know certain defenses. I can't tell you I know the whole playbook yet - but I plan to learn the whole playbook. I want to be versatile. That's been my M.O. since I've been here."

So, are all those positions a little overwhelming at times? "You know where I went to school, so it's never too much," said Alexander, a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. "I'm a smart guy. I can handle it."

"It's not a big thing. You learn how to make things simple, so you can group things together. You hear one call, it might be the same thing for three, four, five different calls. You just group 'em together and it's all the same. That's how I kind of learn and keep it all together."

All this blows up!

When you add this info, plus the non stop drama all off season on Shanny and Albert, one has to wonder? Are the Titans putting out stuff to the Press to start these stories and false stories to these Mortensons,Reids and other minute by minute story breakers...?

The reason I ask is because...remember when the Titans accused us of tampering charges with Albert haynesworth when we signed him. One has to wonder if they are really trying to create conflict as much as they can for their own reasons.

This is all speculation of course, but I find these stories really stupid and on par with the "is brett coming back..or not" drama throughout the off season.

Who knows?

Got this text this morning around 10:25am Redskinsblog @ LarryWeisman GM Bruce Allen in phone call to WTOP radio denied shopping DT AH rumors have been abundant.

Let's lock this thread and EVERYONE will go streaking through the quad to the gymnasium. And then to the thread on Dallas. Who's with me?

We're going STREAKING! TANK! TANK! TANK! TANK! LMAO

Shanahan: Albert Haynesworth had "a great practice." Dismisses "rumor and speculation" about trade talk. 10 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

So how is Shanny or AH or BA doing anything to promote this non-issue media created frenzy? Please only say that it is through leaks if you KNOW(smoot imma lookin at you) that skins sources were purposely leaking the trade info. I really am coming to discount JReid as any type of legit source when it comes to the skins, seems like he has taken up where JLC left off.
