Sinnot is going to be fun. I was pumped about that pick. TE was absolutely a need. Ertz is getting older and is rightfully on a 1 year deal. I doubt he's here in 2025. Next year, we will probably be drafting another TE in the later rounds to back-up Sinnot. Also, Bates wasn't drafted by this staff and frankly he hasn't really done anything very exciting to need to keep around.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

I can live without a corner or basically any other position needing to be fixed for the next year. Im less worried about winning games in 2024 than I am about our new quarterback coming along and just seeing good football while realizing we have something to continue to build on. BSJ stinks, but he isn’t going to get our quarterback hurt.

Basically at this point praying that Peters, Quinn, Kingsbury, etc do better than the shitshow we saw last year with Sam, and I am extremely confident that they have the ability to do so. I am extremely confident that the playcalling and scheming and JD’s natural ability will help. But at some point you 100 percent need decent Tackles and there isnt a single one on the roster I have confidence in. Colemam maybe but probably not in 2024. Daniels, meh. Lucas, meh. Wylie, huge pile of meh.

Kingsbury has his work cut out for him with that group.

I would argue outside CB is as big of a need as OT. You can scheme to protect poor OTs, bad corners are attacked and life in the NFL is really hard with crappy corners.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

ertz was signed in case we whiffed on TE in the draft, I think they both play and how much depends on performance.

OT is still a concern, I hope there's some move there still.

Whiffed on outside CB, but you can't get everything in one year, and it's fine (people had gone through seasons with bad outside CBs before, and I'm not expected a this team to go to the SB or anything).

Could we have done better in the draft? In two years with hindsight, sure, and we did pass up a couple good corners, but rankings don't consider team fit and we don't have the info from the team on why they chose player A over B. We can judge based on wins and performance in a few years though. Until we can see everyone play for a while, it's hard to tell (and there's always freak injuries or bad fit/coaching etc that can happen too).

I think you guys might be underestimating Zack Erts' role. Have you seen any recent photos or film of him working out? The man looks like Mr. Universe! I think he may be determined to have one helluva last hurrah here in Washington. Also, I think Ertz was signed as a veteran presence in the TE room as well as a contributor on the field, not just as an insurance policy.

Sinnott will play too. They might even be on the field at the same time on occasion. None of the other TE's can touch these guys in ability.

If you are right that would be great. However, I'm not holding my breath. I think Sinnott will end up being on the field more than him, especially down the stretch and/or once he learns the NFL and the system.

Would be a good problem to have though.

I've always liked Ertz. He can play. He's also 33 not 43 so he's older but not ancient. He should see a lot of single coverage and get opportunities. Tight end will be interesting this year.

Ertz is on the wrong side of 30 and always seems to be hurt, if he can just be a solid 3rd down option I think we’d take that

I agree. Joe Gibbs did a great job of using role players which I admired.

Re: Commanders 2024 NFL Draft Thread

The question to Chris Cooley was "What do you think of Ben Sinnott?"

“If he is wearing No. 47, we are identical.”

That was Chris Cooley’s first reaction when watching film of the Commanders’ second-round choice (No. 53 overall), Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott.

Cooley was a guest Friday on the “The Kevin Sheehan Show” podcast and gave his film review of the tight end the Commanders drafted last week.

“He is what Joe Gibbs used to call an H-back; he’s versatile,” added Cooley.

Cooley was the comparison that immediately came to my mind when I first looked at some Sinnott tape. Now it's confirmed. If Ben plays like Chris did we are very fortunate to have him.

I think ben has some advantages, slightly faster, better blocker (if you need a weakness it's being on the line try to deal with a DE). He has the same good hands and ability to break tackles for sure though. Cooley played B-back in college, sort of a TE that ran routes out of the backfield (and he caught 1,255 yards his last year at Utah, which is crazy).

A Cooley-like career would be great though.

Yes absolutely. A very good player, especially in his prime. Highly entertaining also. I remember seeing him at camp a couple times during the start of his pro career. He was hilarious and a fan favorite. Eager to see what Sinnott brings to the table.

also has a reminder of rg3/DS silliness minutes 4-7 or so :/
cooley starts around 16:20

apparently cooley did a film breakdown on JD and said he was his #1/#1 QB, but I didn't listen to it (yet). While cooley is very good on breakdowns, i'd give more credibility if it were a good QB coach type or like, peyton.

Jayden is our QB now, so I'm not as interested as I was in the pre-draft period about the opinions of others. I don't say that to put down anyone's opinion. I'm just eager to see what he does for our team on the field.
