With Blache retiring our staff would look like this:
HC - Zorn
OC - Meidt - Full play calling duties
DC - Gray
ST - Smith

With a FO where VC is reduced and Marty or Holmgren are brought in as GM.

I am not sure how this would work, but I think I would see this positively.
IF - and only IF - all the big names rebuff Snyder, I can see something like this happening, especially if the offense continues to show improvement as the season winds down. However, I think equally as likely in that scenario would be:

HC - Gray
OC/QB coach - Meidt - Full play calling duties
DC - Blache (or, if he retires Kirk Olivadotti or John Palemro)
ST - Smith

I also think its possible that if Snyder can't land a big name coach, Gregg Williams would be one of the candidates he interviews and seriously considers hiring.

I really don't know how the offense has managed to improve under these circumstances, and with all the injuries to boot.

Maybe the young guys don't realize just how bad it is.

I'd expect this non sense from a high school team. I'm kind of hoping that we really take a look at Charlie Weis and if he's hired bring in Romeo Crennel as DC. He would at least stop this throwing the ball 4 yards when it's 3-8 and push the ball downfield some more. I also think we need to go to a 3-4 with Orakpo and Carter coming off the edges.

Well it has improved a litte bit but still way too many short passes. Also we still only scored 6 points last week. The offense had no where to go but up.

The west coast offense is based on quick short passes

We should go back to the Air Coryell type offense.

I can't stand the West Coast Offense, if that's what you call this system. Any system that says throw the ball for 5 yards, when you need 10 on 3rd down is stupid.

The West Coast coaching philosophy essentially says, "don't get yourself into 3rd and 10", but we're not very good at the west coast element of the offense.

I am not sure I would blame these failures on playcalling.
There's a rush on the passer on the plays that work too.

I'm actually surprised that the process has gone as smoothly as it has, but honestly the fact that Sherman Lewis has little to no communication with Campbell is amazing to me.
I wonder if he either trusts Meidt and Zorn (I guess Smith too to a lesser extent) and doesn't feel like he needs to have direct communication with JC to instill the plan or what.

The diagram yesterday showed Meidt and Zorn doing the gameplan.. so maybe he feels like that and his conferencing with Meidt and Zorn is enough and JC doesn't need a third guy in his ear

ooooooor

if he just has no interest in JC

Our gameplan seems to be "get to 3rd and 6 or 7"

The funny thing is, when we were at our very best last season and even in the first two games of this season, our offense would avoid third downs altogether. Just pick it up on first or second.

The last 9 games, we're in third down on basically every third play, and it's kind of funny, and kind of tragic. Thing is, we've actually gotten better on third downs in the process, and the points are coming.
