Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

This is nuts. I remember I heard it this morning on the radio and I didnt think it was actually our ST. I actually heard that some people are reveling in this. I actually had one girl in my class say it was the best news she heard all day. I mean come on, the guy is basically in the ICU. That's bad no matter who it is and what team they're playing on, that's getting shot at. This isn't about football or rivalries it's about the preservation of human life.

Can you give us the link for this "claim" he was Dead on Arrival at the hospital.

That is a big deal because flat lining during surgury usually doesnt last long and is less likely to cause brain damage than a whole minute or two before getting to the hospital.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

For some reason I think that he was targeted on purpose. For someone to break into a house and not at least attempt to incapacitate everyone in the house is strange. And if it's a robbery, shouldn't they have at least tried to take something of some worth and then leave? I mean from the details that I've heard it seems like they just broke in, and shot him and rolled out. Sounds kind of strange.

I think there's some foul play involved.

Re: Sean Taylor Shot in the Thigh: CNN News

From JLC's recent post (cited above):

Richard Sparpstein, who has represented Sean Taylor in legal matters in the past and is a friend of the family, said moments ago that the player's life is hanging in the balance in the hospital. Sharpstein, speaking from the hospital, said Taylor is "nonresponsive and unconscious" and the doctors are "worried about a possible brain injury or death."

Sharpstein, who has been with Taylor's family at the hospital much of the day, said that there are major worries that Taylor may have lost oxygen to the brain, and that no other procedures are planned for right now. "They're waiting to see if he comes to," Sharpstein said. He was shot in the groin/thigh area near the femoral artery and lost copious amounts of blood. He was airlifted to the trauma center and endured several hours of surgery, Sharpstein said.

Taylor is in intensive care, Sharpstein said, and his girlfriend and child were not injured in the attack. Sharpstein said Taylor was sleeping when he heard a noise in the living room. The intruders were at his bedroom and Taylor reached for a machete or other form of knife he keeps nearby in case of emergency, and two shots were fired, with one striking his leg.

"Right now he's clinging to life and we're all praying he makes it," Sharpstein said.

Unbelievable. Keep praying; I hope he pulls through.

If you remember a few months ago several NBA players were targeted for home invasions/robberies. I think they were mainly in the Chicago area, but that doesn't mean they couldnt have inspired other scumbags to do the same type of thing.

I'm really worried for the guy now, I just pray that he pulls through.

He must have flat-lined for a pretty long time for them to be worrying about trauma to the brain. Don't you have to be out for at 10-20+ seconds for any serious brain injury? I'm a Psych/Crim major so I don't know about medical issues. Anyone with medical knowledge feel free to inform me/us.

3 - 5 minutes for major brain damage to set in...
