re: Let's talk microbrews good beer

With the warm weather we've had over the last few weeks, it's time to look towards the lighter beers, and I'm not talking about the mass produced Miller/Bud/Coors "Light" beers.

Had a few pints of Evolution Craft Brewery's Sprung over the weekend. Great spring beer, quite smooth, great floral notes, very easy to drink. A beer that could bring those who are hesitant to give microbrews a try into the wonderful world of great beer. From their website, Evo is only offering it in keg form, so if your local watering hole offers Evo on tap, be sure to check this one out. Or head to their brewery just a shade north of Salisbury, MD.

Stawski

Found some of this in Chicago.
Not a microbrew but a Polish lager.
A slightly heavy lager but equally refreshing with a creamy aftertaste.
Pretty good!

Stawski Beer

this looks like a solid beer, but doesnt the name Stawski look too close to swastika? i think i woulda gone with another name.

Ive been on a Heineken craze lately. Smooth beer in these hot temps.

Did though have a couple of these from one of my favorite brewry, Breckenridge:

471 Small Batch | Colorado Micro Brew | Breckenridge Brewery

Had a couple off a cold tap during a dinner. Taste like 100+ IBUs, but the alcohol 9.2% and I really felt it. Good beer, not my favorite from them because you can "taste" the high alcohol percentage. Lil more balance is needed.

re: Let's talk microbrews good beer

Last two microbrews I had were Sierra Nevada's Summerfest® and Flying Dog's UnderDog Atlantic Lager.

SummerFest is just a smooth drinking beer. Great summer time beer. Nice to see Sierra Nevada is still hitting it out of the park with their seasonals.

UnderDog is the lightness of the lager and the bite of the IPA. Very tasty. Had it at home in cans (comes in bottles as well), and then grabbed a draft at a great sandwich shop in Frederick (a.k.a. Friscos | A Gathering Place for the Hungry). I really enjoyed it and glad it's a year-rounder for Flying Dog.

re: Let's talk microbrews good beer

It's a well know fact that I am a hoe when it come to seasonal beers, so lately I've been on a big Oktoberfest and pumpkin ale kick, even though it feels too early for the latter.

I just opened a 22oz bottle of Southern Tier Pumking Ale and I am in heaven! Some people might find it a little too sweet or pumpkin-y but at 8.6% it's got a little kick. It seriously tastes like pumpkin pie. I think I may have to stock up on a few bottles for Thanksgiving.

Last night I had Harpoon UFO Pumpkin and that was also pretty good. Also, in my fridge I have a 6 pack of Pyramid Oktoberfest Autumn Lager that I'm really looking forward to trying this weekend.

I love this time of the year!!! I also found this at the best liquor/beer store in central MD, The Perfect Pour:

re: Let's talk microbrews good beer

Speaking of Saranac Pumpkin Ale, I was in Auburn, NY over the weekend for a wedding, and the bar in the Holiday Inn had this on tap. Needless to say, I had several pints over the course of 2 nights while I was there.

The "beer man" at my favorite liquor store said that the Southern Tier pumpkin is selling very, very well. I'm not too much of a pumpkin guy, but with regard to Southern Tier, their Choklat Stout is one of my absolute favorites. Too bad it's only available three months of the year.
