Re: Ron Rivera Thread

I have to say, I am more optimistic about the direction we're headed than I can recall for a long, long time. Since Gibbs 2.0 (even RGIII's rookie year made me think that it was too good to be true, and it was). Rivera will set a real tone. I just hope that he can get a good GM that he can work with. I understand the desire to lock him in as quickly as possible which is why he was hired before a GM, but that is one hiccup over the course of the last week or so.

Mostly, I am glad that Snyder shit-canned Allen. I said that he had 24 hours to do that after the season ended, or I was done for good. And quite remarkably, he did.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

I would add that in his introductory remarks, Snyder said that the Redskins needed a culture shift. That was a complete (if unintended) rebuke of Allen's stupid "damn good culture" gaffe.

I've read it several times but here's the link I found, per Julie Donaldson NBC Sports Washington:

"Am told Rivera would have total control and final say on Draft. Gives time to evaluate scouting staff. ALL this given unless something in meeting tomorrow goes wrong"

I'dd add it goes along with Dan saying Ron Rivera is going to be the one and only voice of the Redkins in the press conf.

Our Head Coach is gonna be the face of this franchise and I'm on board with that.

Agreed, it stroke me as the best form of self awareness and awakening we could hope for coming for him !

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

To me, this was the most eyebrow raising and hope-inducing thing I read today:

Quote:
Rivera said there was no reason to wait. He said he had pointed discussions with Snyder about his ownership tenure. Rivera said they went through every aspect of the organization.

"That's what I was really impressed with. He was willing to sit there and go through it piece by piece, and we truly did," Rivera said. "We talked an awful lot about those things. We talked about the things that he's learned, and he's grown as a person and as an owner. It was a very frank conversation. He was very honest, very upfront and very candid."
Quote:
And those close to him say seeing Snyder get emotional about the franchise during their meetings helped win him over.
What Snyder has learned, how he has grown, candid, emotional. Dare it be seen as the quintessential Come To Jesus moment?

John Keim, great piece of writing as always.

The way I took your post was that Ron Rivera had asked for total control over the draft process. That's my bad for misinterpreting your post.

Don't do it Schneed! I don't want to believe Dan Snyder has come to Jesus until I see it with mine own eyes.

That article, and the in depth discussions DS and Joe Gibbs had with Rivera were definitely hope inspiring. Gibbs also told RR the key to success with Snyder, and I think it is dead on and what we have lacked.

After that meeting, Rivera met with Gibbs. The Hall of Fame coach gave Rivera this message: Snyder is passionate and will do what you ask, but you must be upfront with him and keep him in the loop.

Keep him in the loop. Makes all the sense in the world. His whole life he was a Skins fan. He just wants to be part of it. To a fault for sure, so much that he has overreached, meddled, buddied up to players. So make your decisions, just let him feel a part of it.

Gibbs is the master at handling people.

He makes it sound so easy, Dan Snyder obviously isn’t easy. But this is very insightful, thanks for sharing.

And like I mentioned a few days back, that is your outside group Snyder was working with. Both live in Charlotte it made sense for Snyder to arrange the meeting.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

The fact that Gibbs was as deeply involved in this as we’re all learning, and the fact that Gibbs told him to get Rivera is all I need to hear.

In Gibbs We Trust.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

Maybe I'm an idiot but I'm gonna roll with Dan on this one. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's finally getting it. Give me the king size koolaid cup.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

I want to say one more time how blown away I am that none of this leaked out.

35 hours at Dan Snyders house over the 3 weeks leading to BA's firing.
Discussions between Rivera and Gibbs.
Family pasta nights!

And then Schaefer leaks his own non-dismissal.

We had a rat in BA and any rats that are left need to be trapped and released into the wildernes. I AM NOT definitively calling Schaefer a BA rat but his move was pretty cheesy.

A joke is a good way of starting a public speaking opportunity, especially if you are uncomfortable. My guess is it was Snyders self deprecating joke to take the edge of the speech.

And man he looked short standing at the podium AND next to Rivera!

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

Snyder actually spoke. You could see how nervous he was...lol

I like that Gibbs was involved simply because Dan respects him so much. It's the honeymoon phase so everyone's happy right now. But it was so good to hear this guy talk, he commands the freakin' room. These guys will get this defense better. Very confident in that. But he isn't a miracle worker. The last game he coached his defense looked like they quit on the guy if you ask me. My only concern is will he be too old school? Especially when it comes to the offense...
