Still think they should have brought in Zay Jones when they had the chance.

You know how CumHanders is a jerkoff name?
When you think of the word commander, what picture comes to mind?
Is it a navy dude? Is it that pig captain turdy?
What is it EXACTLY that comes to mind when you hear that word?

If the answer is not perfectly clear, then you know that it’s a shit name and the jerkoff that gave it to our team screwed us one more time on the way out the door with the weakest shit in the NFL.

Dan Snyder. I would like a name change so that everything that reminds me of Dan Snyder would be removed from the branding of my favorite team.

My first thought to the word Commanders is in terms of the military or commander in chief. Never even heard of the term cumhander.

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

at least we got some good memes out of this. meanings change over time. It may not have been derogatory then, by the 1980s people started changing their opinions (in writing).

There's plenty of examples of that. Slavery used to be legal, now its not (in most of the world). Semantic arguments aren't worth engaging in. This isn't a college course and no one really wants to spend 4 hours writing a book report to argue with someone they don't know on the internet.

Come back to this thread in 10 years. You'll probably think this whole tangent was a bit silly too.

Yes language changes but in order for it to have changed into a derogatory term it would have had to be used as a derogatory term against someone. Thing is the offended determine what offends them but it's the ones that use a term in a derisive manner that make a term derogatory not those who are the victims of the term. So, did Redskins suddenly start being used widely as a slur starting in the 1980s?

No politics in here but I really enjoyed this speech. Definitely worth a watch.

Change the name to Washington Blackfeet.

Heads would literally explode.

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

I am too old to care about a teams nickname and the subsequent opposing fans insults. Besides that is no worse than being called the foreskins for the first 40 years of my fandom.

I don't care what opposing fans think, but I do care what myself thinks about the name. It fucking sucks. Now am I tossing and turning at night over it? No, but I will be fired up if they do change it again down the road.

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

I personally cannot stand the name Commanders. In the AZ Mills mall in Tempe, AZ i can still buy all kinds of Redskins gear (jerseys, hats, shirts, coffee cups, etc.) there, even for new players that came after the name change. So buy my Redskins gear from them. I even wear a Redskins shirt to coach my two NFL Flag Commanders teams. To me it will always be Redskins, no matter what name they go by. ITs why i didn't mind WFT as they were always that and will always be. You can just use whatever moniker you want.

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

When I hear the name commander I don’t see a clear picture of anything. I see a vague reference that can be applied to military or a veiled reference of commander in chief. Both are weak AF. (If you hear a team nickname, ie Cowboys, Eagles, Bears, Dolphins you should be immediately able to picture what that is!)
The picture of captain turdy looking goofy AF, or Joe Biden senile joker smiling doesn’t inspire respectability.
All I can picture is the final epic failure in a long line by Dan where he Completely, and I do mean completely ran this once respected franchise into the ground all the way to losing our identity.
I don’t believe any of us should be burdened with that failure, and such a poor choice of nickname any longer. It should be stricken and just revert to WFT.
It will ALWAYS be Redskins to me.

The picture that comes to my mind, and why I hate it so much, is Dan Snyder standing in the middle of the field in a Napoleonic pose. I will never like the name commanders even if they're winning, At best it will be me holding my nose and saying my Washington team
