Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
He is good, if you have a stud running game/wide receiver/Pro Bowl TE/defense to lean on. We are 0 for 3 1/2 on that front (I say 1/2 because Reed is a Pro Bowl TE who can never stay healthy).

Most average to above average QB's will do well with all the weapons Chiefs have. I am not sold and have never been sold on Smith. Which is why two teams have gotten rid of him. We have tp have a solid team around Smith to win. We do not have that just yet. Depending on what we have up to get Smith, this move is still a big unknown. |

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I complained about KC being check down Charlie, we actually went out and got the original check down Charlie.
I wonder if there is going to be competition for the job or if the use a 1st for a QB Disregard. Smith is reportedly signed to a 4 year extension. |

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I think Kirk and Alex were almost the same quarterback this year. It's almost a straight up swap, except I am pretty sure Alex isn't costing us $25 million a year, he is signed longterm without the drama, and we can use our first rounder on a running back or defensive player.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
Didn''t think of that, since he will be leaving as FA, we'll still get out 3rd round compensatory pick? If so, that's awesome, and it takes a bit off the sting of losing Fuller.
Fyi, Fullet is awesome on Twitter. He busted out the Homer in bushes meme.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
It was a smart decision for the front office to get Alex Smith.....they had a plan and were able to execute that plan in the obvious case that Kirk was going to exercise the leverage they allowed him to gain.
And to be clear I am not absolving the FO of blame for their previous handling of the QB situation. They screwed it up with Kirk. They should have given him a long-term deal 1-2 years ago AND they should have been drafting and grooming viable developmental QBs. They did neither and Kirk had them over a barrel as a result. I don't think Kirk was worth highest QB in the league money. I think Alex is at worst a "push" in terms of QB. I don't like losing Fuller....but let's not kid ourselves we weren't getting Alex without trade compensation. Fuller was good but he wasn't a fulltime outside CB was the 3rd WR usually going against a team 3rd WR. Welcome to Washington Alex! |

Wasn't last year in part to Chris Thompson running several of those short passes for long gains? Same with Alex Smith and Tyreke Hill.

Alex Smith led the league in downfield passing this year.
