Re: Field Condition

The big question is why? Weather here has been good, plenty of time to recover the field. So any thoughts on why it is so bad?

Re: Field Condition

Does anyone know whether there have been events held at Fedex recently?

Seahawks fan here, I kind of lurked these forums before the game to see what you guys were saying. I wasn't planning on popping in, until I heard the news that RG3 might miss all of next season with a torn ACL and PCL. That would really be too bad, the guy impressed me yesterday. Really gutsy performance. Hopefully you guys do something about that field. We've played in Chicago 4 times in the past 3 seasons, once in the playoffs. The field yesterday (according to Pete Carroll) was worse than Soldier Field was in any of those games. Its a shame that that field may have cost one of the great young stars in football an entire season, not to mention it cost us our best pass rusher at least for the rest of the post season.

Anyways, that was a good game yesterday. You guys played us tough, and with how bad our defense looked out of the gates a healthy RG3 would have more than likely changed the outcome of the game.

How do you think you guys will do against the Falcons? If I am a Seattle fan, I would be a bit concerned that we only beat a one-legged QB team by 10 points and didn't take the lead until 7 mins left in the game.

Re: Field Condition

In a sense, i think the horrible field gives us a competitive advantage because we're used to it and our opponents arent. On the negative side, a healthy RGIII is ridiculously fast and having the best playing surface possible would only add to it.

Re: Field Condition

Football definitely wreaks havoc on fields and just general use. I coach high school soccer and our practice fields are used year round. Between high school sports (soccer and football) and youth sports our fields resemble the surface of the moon. It amazes me we have not had more ankle injuries.

We match up well... Well on paper we do anyways. Those first two drives you guys had really had me pissed. Our defense hasn't looked that bad all season. We played a pretty sloppy game all around. Wilson didn't look great in the 2nd half. We're a team that plays better on turf though, so I think playing in a dome will help. We have one of, if not the best CB tandem in the league to lock up with White and Jones. Atlanta is a little over rated. They had the weakest strength of schedule in the league this year, they almost lost to Oakland and Arizona (after they were in free fall) at home. It will be a tough game, but they are beatable. 2 week rest, so they might be a little rusty. Flying all the way across the country to DC, all the way back, and then across the country again to Atlanta and playing at 10 AM (pacific time) worries me though.

Its a horrible field. You can keep grass and just get better grass. Its poor grass and poorly maintained.

Re: Field Condition

It is just so damn sandy too. I know nothing about turf management, but I assume the sandy soil causes the grass to uproot easily and turn into what we see.

Re: Field Condition

Hell both High Schools I attended now have Field Turf. It's incredible that the Redskins don't. Sure the boosters are rich but if a prissy little high school can afford it then I'm sure a top 5 net value sports franchise can as well.

Re: Field Condition

I don't think there's any way Snyder doesn't shell out some change to put in a new field this offseason. After the national exposure from the game and talk about how it might have contributed to his franchise quarterback's knee injury he will be crucified if nothing is done about it. It seems we're all in agreement that the field is in terrible shape, the next question should be which option are we going to go with.

I'm not sure I want Fieldturf in there with all the rumors about injuries it causes. Even if they just re-sodded the field and brought a couple natural grass experts in to work their magic I'd be ok with that.

Re: Field Condition

What was at the stadium site before it was built? I thought I remember someone saying it was swampland at one time. I think the soil there is the bigger problem. The field issues aren't a new thing. It's been like that since the stadium opened.

I think the entire DC area is swamp land.
