Gaddafi's resistence not to leave is gonna end up costing alot of lives in that country.

I think that is the idea, get Western boots on the ground to physically take over the nation ala Afghanistan and dictate by setting up a puppet regime. Those loyalists aren't going away, and a lot of Libyans will join them if the new regime is forced to take IMF/ World Bank dictates and end the subsidies and the nice check they get from the oil profits. Oil profits that will now go mostly to BP and out of the country, where before most of the profits stayed in Libya. Many Libyans might be rejoicing now, but in 5-10 years they will be looking back at the good ole days of Qadaffi. Food prices and gas prices are really going to rise for those people. I mean 15 cents for a loaf of bread, free housing for newlyweds, free college and a car, etc. Cheap utilities, that will no doubt be forced by the IMF/World Bank to be privatized for profit, which is what all this crap is about.

Re: Tripoli About to be Taken Over by Rebels

The oil is the big thing. Every time the US/UK intervenes, throws a coup or invades, it is about natural resources(oil) or pipelines(Afghanistan). In fact we helped put Qaddafi in charge because King Isidris was going to nationalize the oil. The Iraqi Royal Family was gunned down in a coup for wanting to get a fair shake from BP. And the granddaddy of them all, the 1953 coup against Mossadekh in Iran. Every time someone in the ME want to nationalize or partially nationalize their oil, they get taken down. The new twist to all this is if a ME nation pushes for a diversification of what currency ME oil is bought in. Saddam wanted it to be bought in Euros, the Iranians want the same thing. We already took out Saddam, and are itching to take out Iran. The nuclear crap is just another WMD type fiasco. Enriched uranium at 20% isn't close to being weapons grade, and the Mossad is definitely in there, and will take care of them if they ever did come close to weapons grade uranium/plutonium. They whack nuclear scientists at will in Iran. The fact that Israel now has 6 Dauphin nuclear attack subs from Germany should dispel any fear that the Iranians are going to nuke Israel or anybody else. If the Israelis even have one of those subs fully armed with nukes, they can blackmail the entire ME, in doing their bidding. If they have all 6 armed with nukes, well all bets are off. They would have to power to wipe out entire continents if not the entire globe.

Hard to tell, but gas went sky high even after we took Iraq, so who knows. Remember now , it is all about monopoly so prices could stay the same or go a bit higher. I doubt BP is going to ramp up production, just take over what Qaddafi nationalized or wanted to.

It was just a matter of time...Let's hope Bashar al-Assad is next.

Why is it that dictators never go away quietly? Seriously, transfer some stash somewhere and go retire quietly before the shit hits the fan.

In the case of qaddafi I think he is quite delusional and he he believes alot of the stuff he says. Also these guys have been in power for such a long time they probably don't feel they could lose control.

Yes, we're stealing their oil, as reflected by out current absurdly low prices....<rolls_eyes>

Except for the fact they admit they have more centrifuges than they know what to do with (for civillian purposes), added to the fact they have ICBM technology. Would you want to be Israel and have a psychotic neighbor who's stated intent is to wipe you from the map?

Israel is the only successful democracy in the ME, they deserve our support.

Anyone else concerned at the Muslim Brotherhood being poised to sweep the region?

It won't end well.

The part where he says "to the victor goes the spoils of war" which entails procurement of goods without consent. Then he says we should charge them which entails having an agreement in place to remove a dictator for a fee. If the united states wishes to be a mercenary force that's fine...just spell it out up front.

Oh, and lets not forget who are talking about removing here...someone the United States and its NATO allies have deemed a threat which raises the question who is being helped here?
