I try not to do it out of courtesy but I don't expect the person in front of me to do the same. The space within the "recline zone" isn't simply one person's space..it is "shared" space that the recliner has a right to over the person behind.

How can it be shared space when my fcking legs are there?

Re: To recline or not recline

CRedskin I understand what you are saying but to me, when I buy a ticket I am not only paying for simple transport. I am paying for my carry-on weight, my soda, my pretzels, etc. On airlines like Air Tran, with free XM radio, I factor that into the ticket too. So when I say I am paying for comfort, I am saying a portion of my ticket pays for the physical seat which gives me an option to recline, and increase my comfort level. Basically reclining, and therefore that comfort, is a part of the ticket. Perhaps not the main part, but a part nonetheless.

Because the person with the seat in front bought a ticket for a seat that reclines and you bought a seat with a seat in front of you that can recline. You don't like it don't buy the ticket.

I agree. I think the purchase of the seat and its practical functions trumps the purchase of a seat and the space around it.

Re: To recline or not recline

Reclining seats are rude. They should not even be an option in planes. Some clown in front of me wants to sleep so i get his seat rammed in my face. Rediculous...

Re: To recline or not recline

Those who are pissed can buy seats behind exit rows. Exit row seats cannot recline, correct? Or is the seats in front of the exit rows cannot recline.

Either way, you can get tickets for seats that do not get obstructed.

Oh really? And what exactly are you going to do when my hands hold up your seat or I keep banging on your comfortably reclined seat with my knees? It's my fcking space and I'm going to do whatever it takes to keep it that way.

May the biggest dick wins and I'm always in it to win it.

The first exit row can not recline into the second exit row. And you can't always get those seats because they are limited and often times sold out. I suppose if you're tall you can travel by car, train, buy your ticket early, upgrade to better class, or be the dick behind the dick who won't allow the dick front of him recline his seat.

Re: To recline or not recline

I typically turn around and say, "Hey, do you mind if I recline? Seriously, if you need the space I don't mind staying up."

Most of the time, I'm typically so sleepy I could sleep with someone stabbing me in the neck on an airplane, so I'm a back example.

Re: To recline or not recline

It's about respect.
Out of respect I will cover my cough and *try* to hold in my gas.
I won't listed to 2 Live Crew or read playboy/penthouse on the plane.
I could, it's my right but I won't.

I don't like recliners but I try not to let is stress me out. The only time it's a problem is if it's a tall person and I have to look at their scalp. I've actually counted the freckles on a bald guys head...
on a flight from Chicago to San Diego, The guy two seats to my right started coughing continuously when the guy in front of him reclined. As soon as he put his seat up and moved, the coughing stopped. I might need to use that one day.

Man I think I am just going to start flying to Seattle, in the hopes saden1 is sitting behind me. I would recline like it's nobody's business.
