Re: ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. looks at Redskins' late-round draft picks
Perhaps I should clarify. I dont distrust kiper soley because he had clausen ranked so high on his board. That was just one example showing how far off his analysis of a player is from pretty much every NFL scouting department out there. Yes, we all know the draft is a crapshoot and assigning grades a day or two after picks are made is an exercise in futility. But everyone does it, so I don't fault Kiper specifically. Prmarily, i don't like his grades because they ignore draft picks that were used to acquire veteran players. You can't knock a team for not having picks. You need to consider what those picks were used to acquire, whether its a college player, professional player, head coach, ham sandwich, or whatever.

surely he was ranked above several of the players taken in the 1st, just not every team is looking to use it on a QB |

Re: ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. looks at Redskins' late-round draft picks
Kiper is like 1 scout. If you asked every NFL scout to give you his top 100 players from this draft they would all be different. Draft grades in general are stupid but people want to read them for whatever reason and Kiper is not the only one who does them. I read another article which called the Redskins pick of Williams the biggest reach of the draft which is preposterous.

Also, since 1999, of the 60 players Kiper ranked in his top 5, 44 were taken in the top 5. 55 were taken in the top 10. So he must have some sense of what NFL scouts and execs are thinking

Re: ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. looks at Redskins' late-round draft picks
some sense, yes. but a top 5 player dropping to 48 is almost unheard of. still, i didn't mean to make a mountain out of a molehill. just pointing out that anyone's opinion of a draft two days after it happens should be taken with a grain of salt, including kipers. no one is infallible.... except me, of course.
hear me out - we could have essentially gotten jake plummer for free, kept our 2nd round pick, and used it on a free safety, something we desperately need. you can't tell me donovan mcnabb is better than a jake plummer nate allen combo! heck, if we had gotten plummer, we wouldnt have been forced to take Williams at 4. We could have selected Spiller with our 1st, used our 2nd on an OT, and then picked up Jevon Snead after the draft to learn under Plummer for a couple of years and become our franchise QB in 2012. Jake Plummer would have solved all of this teams problems. Heck, if a guy with Plummers credentials had been our QB, you know Haynesworth would have been in camp. McNabb can take us to one superbowl. Plummer could take us to seven. why the redskins FO didn't listen to me, we'll never know.

You know that Morris kid intrigues me with the talent he brings to the FB, TE, and special teams positions. He can block, catch, and probably hit well enough to contribute very early in his rookie season. I think he will be a solid pickup for the Skins.
