I would say we certainly aren't pigeonholed into a pick now. That being said, we will probably take the safety... ;-) |

Sounds like Eric Schaffer is still the best in the business at massaging the cap.

Re: Our Cap Dudes: Still Brilliant
This is good to hear. I was thinking we were missing a great oppurtunity to use this uncapped year.

Smoot -- any thoughts on if Mt. Cody will still be around in the 2nd round for us? He'd be a great 1-2 punch with Keamantu to rotate NTs.

Damn I was waiting to hear about the Redskins doing something like this. I don't care what anyone says, they Redskins are by far the best at managing the cap. Now we should have tons of cap room if the cap ever does come back.

Re: Our Cap Dudes: Still Brilliant
Very good analysis, but one thing he said that I have trouble with, is the part about the release of the 10 players. That clearly could not have happened in a salary cap environment, or we would have be in true cap hell instead of skirting it as we have done these past so many years. That allowed us to clean the slate. AH and DH's renegotiations may allow us more flexibility going into the future, but dropping 30.5 million in dead weight players is a huge benefit for the team. I can't wait to see how the new CBA deals with all this money we've shuffled around. Maybe they will have a "Redskins Accounting Clause"!

Re: Our Cap Dudes: Still Brilliant
I know some fans thought the team was holding back with FA signings but, if you ook at the quality of UFAs, there wasn't a slew of talent and youth available; Dansby being the exception. Now heading into the draft there's still too many 'what ifs'. That's why teams draft the best player available. How much can we lean on Kemoeatu playing NT or Haynesworth for that matter? Would it be smart for the team to purposely play Haynesworth at NT to push him towards a buyout of his contract? I just don't think any team considers Clausen a Top 5 pick so, it's quite a reach to draft him there. It is believable that (in no particular order) McCoy, Suh, Okung, and Bradford (pending his workout) are the consensus Top 4. So by default, one of them will fall into our lap.
This is where trade scenarios come into play. I don't think it's priority to draft a 4-3 DL such as Suh or McCoy; not at 4th overall. What's intriguing is what will SEA and KC do at 5th and 6th overall. SEA has two first rounders and could look to trade with WSH to leapfrog KC to get their guy. That could be a good position to be in. |

I would have considered Haden for sure about two months ago. I'm not as sold on him now, not at #4

Re: Our Cap Dudes: Still Brilliant
I'm assuming because of his 40 time? I agree that #4 would be too high. Especially with the other talent that will be available.

Re: Our Cap Dudes: Still Brilliant
No, I'm not too worried about the 40 time really. Just don't know if he's #4 worthy

Re: Our Cap Dudes: Still Brilliant
We have holes all over the board. I guess they would know best how to fill those holes. I'd still prefer one of the more top ranked QB's vs. settling for a piece of work and hoping he developes within a year, but I do have concerns about our NT's injuries and will he be ready to start or even if he is will he be able to hold up. Then there is the issue of rotation. He's going to want to be relieved once and a while.
My concerns in order are: QB OL NT LB NT and what ever else we need. You could almost interchange the LB and NT spot depending on depth in the draft. |
