I think it would be difficult to spot the ball if the dude's helmet falls off just before he is down.

No problem with the helmet rule.

Leave OT alone. As I've said before, if you didn't play well enough to win in regulation, you don't have a damn thing to whine about.

Killing plays when ball carrier loses helmet? Are you kidding me? That sounds retarded. If a player wants to get extra yardage let him.

Oh no, wait, you really didn't score a touchdown because your helmet was off.

It's BS.

Not only does it protect the safety of the players, as something is bound to happen, but it also will force them to tie on their helmets tighter. Way too many loose helmets these days.
I think in theory it is right, but the first time a play is stopped when the ball is in the air to a wide open receiver in the end zone and he catches it.

if the ball is in the air then there's no ball carrier

Here's another hypothetical:
Adrian Peterson rams helmets with a random FS, and he fumbles the football AND loses his helmet at the same time. What's a ref to do?

I guess at that point he's no longer a ball carrier, but it depends how the ref calls it

Forget sudden death and bring back the tie game, it will encourage teams to play harder to prevent ties because of the playoff implications involved.

Sorry, I did not read the rule, I did not see 'ball carrier' part. I thought they were saying anyone on the field loses his helmet.
But SirClintonPortis came up with one of several possible scenarios that could make this rule difficult. The first time it is applied on a game winning/changing play like a 4th and goal there will be controversy.

nah.. that'd be horrible though if it was just any helmet.. though I've seen people take knocks helmetless that weren't ball-carriers as well

Exhibit A on why I'm against the helmet rule:

YouTube - Witten Loses Helmet and still runs
