Re: Giants Release Pierce

Why on earth would we want to bring back an injured 31 year old 4-3 middle linebacker when we're switching to a 3-4 system? It makes absolutely no sense and would be about as stupid and short-sighted as 90% of the stuff we did when Vinny and Danny were running the show.

I said it in the other threads discussing Pierce and i'll repeat myself here. No thanks. Not even for the vet minimum in an uncapped year.

Well that's just silly, because that's basically saying we have 6 linebackers on our roster who are better than Antonio Pierce. It's just not true.

With the cap no longer an issue, don't even bother talking about salary. It's a non-factor. He'd be an upgrade over what we have on the bench.

But he shouldn't unseat Fletcher, he would have to earn a starting spot if he even can, and he shouldn't be counted on for very much.

GW won't take him cuz he's the one who let him go. GW figured all we needed was Lemar Marshall and GW's defensive "genius".

Cocky pr*ck killed our 2006 season, the year it should have all come together for Gibbs II.

Pierce wants to stay in the division and we need LB's...sounds good to me. Sign him to the vet min. with no signing bonus. If we pick up someone in the draft or FA who performs better, cut him.

Re: Giants Release Pierce

No thanks. He's 32, had a pretty serious neck injury last year and seems to have lost a step. This would be a step back. We need an infusion of youth on both sides of the ball.

Not that I think we should pick him up, but how is picking up Pierce for the vet min any different than picking up some camp scrub?

But then he and Gibbs both later admitted publicly via interviews that they'd like to have that move back, that they should have tried to keep Antonio.

Not really surprised the Giants released him, but would be surprised if he wound up coming back here. He's aging with injuries.

True. And to be fair it was GW that turned Pierce into a great player in the 1st place.

Re: Giants Release Pierce

Some info on Pierce's release and his health. I'm sure someone will pick him up.

Re: Giants Release Pierce

I'm in agreement with everyone else, AP has been falling apart the last two seasons. It really points to the fact of how durable London Fletcher is. But I think Pierce can come back, but I think he'll continue to have some lingering health issues.

Wouldn't totally surprise me to see Pierce return home to California and reunite with Greg Manusky in San Fran

Yeah and I believe the offer from the Skins was very much in line with what the Giants gave him, the Giants just gave him more $$ up front. So it's not like the Skins let him walk out the door without making an effort to keep him.

That's the way I remember it. We cut Trotter and gave Pierce a chance to start. He did very well and we made a good offer after the season but he went for the most money.
