Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
I think LJ will be a suitable replacement short term. But this thread should, if the fans can, be about Samuels, his game, and his abilities. NOT just another -lets bash Dan/Vinny thread. Samuels stepped right in and played hard game in and game out. I have a ton of respect for him.

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
Who likes to "hate on" Chris Samuels? I can honestly say that I don't remember a single person (on this website anyway) who doesn't appreciate what he's given us.

I've been guilty of taking him for granted

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
Yeah I guess we complain alot as a fan base. But just think how he will never know what it feels like to make it to the big game. He and Janson were the best for so many years now look at us. Makes me kind of sick.

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
That brings up an interesting point -- as far as Redskins tackles go, outside of Lachey and Jacoby of the late 80's/early 90's, can anyone think of a better left and right tackle duo than Samuels and Jansen at their peak?

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
As weird as this sounds, the Thomas and Samuels career ending injuries are blessing in that it woke up the team and management about the real needs of this team. This was the biggest fear going into the season and yet nothing was done about it and then it did happen. Things happen for a reason.

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
Sad day ppl, Chris was one of the best Lineman in Skins history, maybe a Hall Of Famer. I think this is a sign of total rebuliding for our offense next yr.

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
He's been a great Redskin for a long time mother time and injuries have just taken there toll. I wish Chris a good time now that it appears his football playing days are over. It seems to be a smart move to get out while you can still walk.
Posted at 5:44 PM ET, 10/23/2009 Chris Samuels most likely will retire UPDATED: Redskins Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels has decided to sit out the remainder of this season and most likely to retire because of a severe neck injury he suffered about two weeks ago, league sources said. Samuels, who earlier this week traveled to California to consult with a specialist, has shared his decision with some at Redskins Park. The 10-year veteran has not played since suffering the injury during the Redskins' first possession in a 20-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 11. A source close to Samuels said he will not make a final decision on retirement until December or January. Now....If Vinny had a brain other than, uh, duh, der, um,um,um.....CS would be on the field THIS Monday pm. I remembered to save the quote from Vinny about CS status, just last week. WOW....sometimes it's just hard to believe the guy is that far out there. Imagine that. A few more nuggets from Cerrato's appearance. On the second-year receivers: "I think you'd like more production. But I think that they're making progress. And what they need is, they need to gain confidence. And if you catch balls early in the game, I think you gain confidence. And when you have confidence, I think then it just carries over. You have a carryover factor. So I think if they can get going early, just like any receiver, they get going early, I think then they become a huge factor in the game." [Those guys combined for 1 catch for 12 yards, and 1 carry for 2 yards. For the season, they've combined for 144 receiving yards, two yards more than Eagles rookie Jeremy Maclin had last week. Guess Maclin has more confidence.] On the offense: "The key is to score points....We've got to score more points." [Against some of the NFL's worst teams, the Skins scored 40 points in their first three games, and 39 points in their next three games. The Saints have scored at least 45 points three separate times in their first five games. The Patriots scored 45 points in one half on Sunday.] On Chris Samuels: "I think he's, uh, you know, doing fine, you know. It's just a mental thing, that, you know, he's got to feel better mentally, you know, I think. And, you know, it just takes a little bit of a time." [A stinger for a guy with a history of spine problems is a mental thing? Really? Well, whatever.]

Re: Chris Samuels about to Retire
There's been plenty of folks who think he's either overrated or over the hill the past couple of years. You know, the usual crowd that's always a little quick on the trigger to write a player off as finished? I think we're all guilty of that from time to time.
