Between that and Moss getting into it I'm wondering if the leadership from the coaching staff may be lacking in the behavioral basics dept.
Bingo.. ST would have had him under control.. It looked like Laron idolized Sean, he cried when Sean died.. That says something..

Zorn said in the presser that he was cool with the late hit even though it cost 15 yards. Said LaRon didn't know he was out of bounds and continued to play football. LaRon is a baller.

If you watched the Steelers vs Titans game , Troy Polamalu did the same thing when Chris Johnson had a 34 yard run and he hit him late out of bounds. Laron is not Troy P. but he is very agressive. He needs to become a better tackler and leader.

Re: Laron Landry Grinds My Gears

I was thinking, when he missed on the knockout shot on Boss, that he's looking a lot like the year Sean Taylor had that was a "down year." Sean had a year (I'm thinking the one before he was killed (not the one during which he was killed)) where he took a bunch of bad angles, only went for kill shots and never really tried to get any picks. That reminds a whole lot of Laron right now and I'm a little concerned. I just hope that a coach can get through to him that if he played more under control, he'd be an absolute monster.

I also think he'll always suffer because it's tough to lose a Sean Taylor and then have a perfectly good player replace him. He's not Sean Taylor and he probably never will be. That's difficult to accept. He can be very good, but Sean was well on his way to becoming one of the greatest safeties of all time. The year he was murdered, he was definitely coming into his own and it seemed like he was making every play. We all know what happened after that. Landry steps in and he's perfectly capable, if a bit undisciplined, but he's not Sean and he's going to have a tough time erasing/living up to that. He may never live up to it.

None of this is to suggest that Landry can't play the game, I really like the guy, I just hope that he can start to play a little more under control.

Also, let's keep in mind, that Laron was supposed to be the blitzing, down in the box SS, not the 25 yards away from the line FS, so that takes an adjustment as well. Laron can't really play to his instincts because he's always been down in the box with a FS to cover for him if he misses the big shot, he wasn't the last line of defense, now he is, he'd do well to remember that.

Missing on AP grinds my gears most about Landry. Sean Taylor, he is not, and will never be. Landry was supposed to be a Polamalu type at SS, but to be honest, I don't see that happening anytime soon either. There's a fine line between playing aggressively and playing out of control, and I feel that Landry crosses that line far too often still.

I think Landry will be a great player. He just needs to spend more time on film and study up on coverages. He's a free safety. His job this year and last is more about coverage and interceptions rather than getting the big hit.

As much as Jacobs running over him hurt his image and his pride, hopefully he can put it behind him and just learn that lesson.

You know what grinds my gears? The Redskins waterboys. They've gotta be the worst in the league. I can't count how many times I saw thirsty Redskins and the waterboys just dragging their asses. C'mon hustle, get that water dished out!

You notice that too? Some of those punks didn't even have towels ready for players as they came off the field.

See, that right there is totally the fault of Vinny and Lil' Danny with a little help from Zorn. Did you know that we traded three young waterboys that we had been developing to New England for Brady's personal towel washer? Then, Zorn has the guy sitting in the locker organizing towels rather than keeping Jason's hand's dry. You know what happened - Jason's hands weren't "Brady soft & dry", Osi strips the ball, game over.

Epic, epic fail.

Re: Laron Landry Grinds My Gears

Anyone here notice that one INT was due to Landry's hustle?

Anyone here think Landry makes WR's hesitant to come through the middle?

I'll take the somethines bad with the very, very good. Landry is a great Safety, one lax game won't change that.

Re: Laron Landry Grinds My Gears

Landry is a very good player. A lot of what he does fails to show up on the stat sheet; he's asked to play deep center field and he generally prevents teams from going deep on us.

However, I agree he's not producing like a top 10 pick and needs to play with more discipline and maturity. He shouldn't go for the kill shots unless he knows he's going to take down his man; he missed tackles far too often. He also needs to stop talking trash right in players' faces after a tackle, or we're going to get burned one of these days.

yeah thats my view on landry too. last year it seemed like we pretty much played 1 safety, and that was landry, 40 yds from the line of scrimmage, asked to just sit back there and go sideline to sideline if a deep ball is thrown. id like to see him closer to the LOS but then who do we have on the roster that we can trust to do what he does which is basically patrol the deep end of the pool by himself. . . . landry has crazy closing speed.

go skins!!

Re: Laron Landry Grinds My Gears

Nownownow, that's some high quality...H20.

I think the excuse about learning has become invalid, as Landry played all of 2008 as Free Safety and spent his 3 years at LSU as a free safety. The mistakes should be becoming less and less, and overall he had been a solid player for the Redskins.

Meanwhile, you have a game he's been thinking about for almost a full year, trying to exact revenge. Adrenaline got the best of him. If it further becomes an issue, Blache should address it. However, a week at practice and in the film room will show him the mistakes he made and he should make the necessary adjustments.
