Re: Jansen Released!

Jansen is very very very lucky to have collected such a huge paycheck last year.
He had a great run. He's filthy rich. Doubt he ever plays another down in the NFL.
The only people who think he can still play have the last name Jansen.

Re: Jansen Released!

Great Redskin player and great in the community. Hope he lands in a good situation, but it was time. I will be eager to see how our guys handle the RT position this year. Hopefully someone steps up.

Re: Jansen Released!

Sad day, but if it makes sense financially I think everyone agrees that he's way below what he used to be.

Jon Jansen deserves a lot of credit & praise from us. At a time when the franchise tried every win big quick scheme JJ not only did his job, he did it well, played in pain & on top of that, was a leader & spokesperson.

Re: Jansen Released!

Honestly, I didn't understand how he "Won" his starting job back last year. The Starter "Heyer" beat him out in training camp, got hurt, and went to the bench the remainder of the season? That whole situation didn't make sense to me. And don't preach that crap to me about how it may have negatively affected the running game. That's a bunch of crap. I appreciated Jansen in his early years, but this was way overdue.

Good Riddance

Re: Jansen Released!

This sure opens a whole lot of questions to me:

First has to be the cap. Wasn't he like a 2.8 million dollar hit? I know he had a 6million dollar release fee.

Second, I really thought they were trying him at C/G, so now who backs up Rabach?

Third, What the h*** is going on with the line!?!

Re: Jansen Released!

Well this is bittersweet for sure. I didnt think Jansen had anything left after he snapped his ankle against Miami in 2007, and even before that he seemed to really struggle. Those two major injuries in 04 and 07 really shortened his career in my opinon... this had to be done, he's just not that good anymore in my opinion.

However, I absolutley say thank you to Jon Jansen for his years of service with the Skins'. He was tougher than nails, did a heck of a job and I had the chance to meet him twice and was a real good guy as well. It's also sad to see one, or if I'm not mistaken THE longest tenured Redskin go. I hope he gets a shot somewhere and if he makes good on it, I honestly hope the guy does well... but I really think he's done. !

Re: Jansen Released!

Didn't see this one coming. I thought it was cheaper to keep him than release him?

I wish him luck. He was a true Redskin.

I don't understand the negativity some have towards him, the guy always showed up and gave it his all.

1) Major vote of confidence for Edwin Williams

2) They'll probably bring back Pete Kendall to help with depth.

3) Otherwise, full on youth movement on the OL.

Re: Jansen Released!

Jansen was a class act that gave us 100% any time he stepped on the field. I hope once he's done playing he comes back to the area or organization in some capacity.

I can see him with his own radio show or as a Comcast analyst.

On the field, I think this signals that they've seen something in Heyer, Williams and/or Bridges that they deemed keeping Jansen would have taken valuable reps away from players ahead of him on the depth chart.

Re: Jansen Released!

Jansen 2-3 years ago with Samuels was great. He was a tough competitor who seemed to make teh most of what he had. Not the most athletic, a little brittle, he was always one of my favorites. With that said, he was way past his prime and lucky to have a job last year. If he was not the most athletic in his prime, these last two years he has been stiff as a board.

Sorry to see him go without getting the chance to say good-bye at FedEx.

Good luck to him.

Re: Jansen Released!

Damn talk about coming on here and getting a shock. While Jansen may have regressed a little late in his career his overall performance in DC was great. Its rare nowadays in the NFL to have a player play for one team as long as Jansen has. Drafted in 1999 and paired up with Chris Samuels in 2000 we had two of the best young tackles for years. I still remember all of the classic battles Jansen and Michael Strahan had as if they were just yesterday. You usually dont find quality guys like Jon Jansen very often in the NFL who have the complete package. Its a sad day for Redskin fans everywhere that he is no longer a Washington Redskin.

Hopefully this means guys like Heyer, Mike Williams, and Bridges have stepped up.

This would be good, I think he was a good spot guy on the Redskins Nation, very informative.

That said...
I really hope the FO acted with class in talking with him about the release, I certainly don't want to see him become a bitter guy and bash Snyder for the next 5-10 years. I also wonder if (conspiracy alert) ESPN980 was told to make room for him when they released BMitch

Re: Jansen Released!

Surprised but also bittersweet. I am happy they could do it now and give him a shot to grab on with another team. I am happy to be done with watching him be awful. I am sad because before he was awful he was pretty damn good for a long time and really one of those core guys that Gibbs talked about.

Wow! Didn't see this coming. I wonder how the cap is affected.
I saw it coming. I said it many times on the site. I was looking at how much salary cap space we had and thought that it was being saved just to release Jansen.
