Could be a lot worse.

Stuart Scott could be in the booth.

Ugh. I can't stand Chris Collinsworth. I think he's really negative, and smug as all hell.

Re: John Madden retires

I like Collinsworth ok enough but I'd like to see a more inspired choice.

I think for the primetime games they need to have guys who simply love football and present it as entertainment. I like good analysis teams but for Sunday and Monday nights they have to make it entertaining to more than just footballniks. They need someone who knows football and will enjoy being positive and fun.

He was always my favorite to listen to. I'll miss him.

Sad to say, but now the best football analyst (not commentator) with any real football experience is...Troy Aikman.

Okay, so I know that's sacreligious, but it's true. Plus he's already paid his dues to us B&G fanse when he got blown-up by Lavar (and his career ended).

I loved Lavar!!! Until I didn't.

Re: John Madden retires

Smootsmack:

I think Michaels/Collinsworth would be an excellent pairing. And Colinsworth is already under contract at NBC.

Also under contract at NBC is Tiki Barber who has the credentials to be a color guy, but I'd rather go with Colisnworth as a known quantity than Barber who could be a monumental failure in the job.

I have no idea if Troy Aikman has a buyout clause in his contract with FOX. If he does not, I doubt FOX would just let him trot on over to NBC. Same goes for Phil Simms at CBS.

Any chance ESPN might allow Steve Young to do games on NBC? I think he'd be very good.

Of course, all of this presupposes that Al Michaels is going to be around for a while. He's not exactly a rookie here.

The one person I actively do NOT want to see in that booth is Joe Theismann. I find him hugely annoying doing games on TV. When he is interviewed for commentary on radio programs he is informative and entertaining and relaxed. But when he does games ...

Re: John Madden retires

How about Dennis Miller and Tony Kornheiser at the same time.

Re: John Madden retires

Why not Gibbs. Who wouldn't want to hear the high pitched giggle every couple of minutes.
